Donated miniature horse killed by pit bulls
“It just makes me angry that people allow their dogs to run on the loose.”
A miniature horse given to a boy with brain cancer by the Make-A-Wish Foundation was killed by a pair of pit bulls who were found roaming in his yard, authorities said. via KVII-TV Amarillo

I have had many pit bulls and anyone that nows about these animals and their prey drive knows they should not be allowed to roam freely. The owner should be held accountable. It is people like these that are giving pit bulls a bad reputation. These are extremely loving and loyal animals. They are bright and want to please. This is what drives them to do what they are trained to do. Proper training is a must for this type of dog. Irisponseble owners were the cause of this and should answer for it not the dogs, or the breed!!!!!!!!!!

This is about all I can take...There should be a city ordinance against these vicious animals..HOW many times is it going to take before people wake up

you don't have to "TRAIN' any other dogs NOT TO KILL

This is such an awful story, and if I still owned a pit bull mix, I would be contacting my state and federal reps to look into how to change LAWS to prevent IDIOTS from buying these dogs.
It is about irresponsible owners, not the dogs, as James suggests. There are plenty of dogs who are neglected - and are killers as a result. These dogs are naturally aggressive -- morons want to own them because they think it makes them tougher. For-real people own these dogs to intimidate people who might want to break into their home, etc. This owner clearly either had troubled ones, or was a horrible owner. DON'T BLAME THE DOG - it is the owners who don't react to such tendencies who need to BE CRIMINIALLY CULPABLE. |

I totally agree! You can train any animal to be vicious, but it is much easier to train pit bulls to be so. I just think it is wrong to punish the entire breed for several OWNERS' mistakes. |

Ok, so what do you get when you mix a dog that's breed to hunt bear, and someone who doesn't know how to train it properly???? Look at Rick, James, and Bree's thoughts on the subject, if they had pits I'm sure they'd attack too, because they don't understand the nature of the breed. Loyal (necessary in life or death situations, like bear hunting), strong (all the better to hold on to a bear and bring it down), intelligent (I worked at a pet shop and we couldn't keep one of the pits we groomed in a cage because she'd figure out how to get out), and yes, they can be vicious, but all dogs have the capacity for viciousness, they just don't need as small a push to unleash it.

Dogs are hunters. All dogs, not just pit bulls, chase after other animals all the time. If these dogs had killed a deer, would anyone have cared? Would it have been wrong? How is a dog to know a deer from a mini horse? Fair game if you ask me, tell the horse owners to put up a fence.

Tell the dog owners to put up a fence, and if the dogs are wild then they need to be taken to a shelter, dogs roaming around freely are dangerous. |

People are just jealous cuz they cant handle a pit. or just plain out scared lil pussies. pit bulls are thee best breed of dog there is. the most beautiful animals to even roam in the canines. any dog can find a way outta things and any dog can attack sumthin. its all instinct. wat wud u do if u were wild n had to hunt for ur food huh? how bout da lions killing the zebras. oooo, its just how animals live. well guess wat? pits are animals but are also our friends. Dont discriminate. quit bein such haters. pits are a passion unlike u pussy dog owners.

Okay let's face it all dogs originated as wolves. Wolves hunt to survive, that basic instinct is still in all dogs (you can observe wolf nature in all breeds). The only differnce between the two is that WE alter the dogs behavior by, simply, our presence in their lives. Our treatment of them designates which instincts are more readily apparent, don't blame the animal for following it's instincts.
