The article seems to state that the gas company will acquire and own the tracts of land. Gas companies have normally sought easements and rights-of-way where they intend to totally control the surface and subsurface use of the land by restrictions. In this manner they do not pay property taxes, but in essenence "own" almost total use of the land with out paying the cost. Is this what is happening here?

I agree with Paul. Why is the gas company trying "own" these properties? For years gas companies would just get easements. We have a 36" line easement on our property. We are not allowed to build over it and couldnt build within a certain amount of feet ie: storage sheds. Crops could still be planted and farmed over it. Is this gas company wanting to own this property for future use ie: rail, power transmission, fiber optic.
The thing missing is did they buy all the other land except these or do they just have easements on all the other tracts?

Kinda like the NAFTA superhighway. The taxpaying property owners be damned.
