OK, do they really need to investigate whether this was an accident or deliberate? The nutjob was pumping gas directly inside of his van. One less idiot on the planet. case closed.

"Police still are investigating whether it was accidental or a deliberate act of self-immolation."
If I was the Lancaster police chief I would be a bit upset that the Dispatch added the above sentence to their article. All it says now is that they are dummies because given the apparent facts of the video surveillance, it was not only an attempt at self immolation but attempted(successful) suicide. Throw out accidental altogether, unless there was a gas can inside his van that he was filling. If that's the case, then maybe he was trying to steal the gas? Gosh I've wasted 5 minutes of my life writing about this silly article.

Yeah, glad the police are investigating whether it's accidental or deliberate. I could see how one would accidentally put the hose in a window instead of the gas tank, then get into the vehicle and not notice the odor and then accidentally light up a cigarette while the hose was still in the window.

I see that happen on an almost daily basis!!! The guy could have killed several other people. If by any remote chance it was accidental he must definitely win this year's Darwin Award. If this was self inflicted by design he must have absolutely no compassion for anyone else by setting this aflame right next to the gas pumps.

Yes, people regularly pump gas directly into the window. Really? They really need to investigate this further. Obvious suicide. The End.

Let's just play Devil's Advocate for a minute. Could he maybe have been under the influence of some drug or so inebreiated that he did not know what he was doing. Ok, if that's the case I know he also shouldn't have even been driving, either, but I know we hear of instances like this everyday. Just saying...........maybe it does merit further investigation.

The first article I read said there was possibly 2 people arguing in the van. I believe it was the Lancaster eagle gazette I read that in. Is it possible that that article may have had some truth to it? If so then they need to investigate more. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Some of you are really sick, or have no heart to write some of these comments!!!!!!

It's sad that someone in life was so distraught that this was his best option, to kill himself. And by fire nonetheless! What a way to go. I agree it looks to be suicide, but all deaths that are not natural causing are investigated just incase there was something else going on. It could be ruled accidental if they find he was heavily under the influence, or has a history of some mental issue. It doesn't sound likely to me, but it still has to be investigated.
