Been here since the late-70's. The answer is definitely No. I used to love Alvin in those days. Now the city government and police department are horrible. Corruption, drugs and crime are rampant. Don't believe what the city website says about how great it is here. They are way too complimentary of themselves. Wish the housing market would pick up.

Alvin is definitely not the same. However, I am quite sure it is alot better than other places. My sister's boyfriend moved here from Channelview and simply loves it here. He in fact thinks there is less crime here than Channelview. Alvin has its faults but the grass is not always greener somewhere else.

I was born in Alvin in 1969. My family moved to upstate NY in 1980. I have never been back to Alvin since and still live in NY now. My parents did eventually move back to Texas after I was grown. I still wonder what happened to all my friends. Back then it was alot harder to keep in contact.

BTW, I do remember that big a** flood. I was around 9 and stepped out of my bed to about half a foot of water in my room.

I moved to Alvin and love it. Frobergs is a treat. For those of you saying the police and government are horrible, please post details. Not only that, but be in attendance at city council meetings where your voice can be heard. If you have had horrible experiences there is no excuse for that and something should be done. But bear in mind that crime is increasing, budgets are decreasing, but people's expectations for city services remain the same.
My own experience has been that the city is responsive and polite. There were some drainage problems in the area and they put in new culverts and drainage pipes.
Around the time I first moved in, a few of the local police stopped by, introduced themselves, and were helpful and polite.
I had actually planned to move to the Austin area but fell in love with the little house I bought and am fixing up. The neighborhood is quiet, and if I am working in my yard people stop by and just talk just like folks did in old timey towns.
