What are these people doing that makes it worth giving them so much of taxpayers' money?

In regards to the last post, I am not sure. I do know that it has to do with how much land they have and what they do with it or rather what they don't do with it. I know some of these people...I am happy for them that there is kinda like a safety net for the farmers. I am sure that some have worked hard with what they have and others have learned how to manipulate the circumstances to there benefit. I heard someone somewhere call the system the "Cooperate Farmer's Welfare Program". Some have become dependant on it and down right ungrateful for it (thinking it something they have earned or deserve).

Looking for anything that makes sense in the world of crop subsidies is a fool's game.

I assume this is like regular WELFARE, you just grow up in the system and know the ropes. They don't teach it in school, but us stupid people just keep on working to pay for it, and re elect officials that let us. I wish someone could or would STOP it. If someone in the next elections uses this for a campaign, I would vote for them. lol like that will ever happen.

Eddie Joe norton is not playing the system. I know for a fact this man has busted his a$$ his whole life & worked & still works every inch of his farms. He deserves this money because if not for him I can guarentee a lot of u nay Sayers wouldn't have the luxory if sitting on ur a$$es bad mouthing these hard working farmers. He works from 3am-10pm daily & has for 50yrs to provide corn cotton & other things from his crops back to the community. He raises cattle & hogs & gets no help taking care if his land or his animals. Maybe some of u shouldn't judge so quick & know why he gets this & that every bit if money he gets goes right back into his land. Hard working men shouldn't get bashed on a craphole site by a bunch of ungrateful pencil pushers who probably haven't worked an honest day in a girls in their lives!!!

I am sure these are hard working people. BUT, so am I, and I pay taxes and I DO NOT WANT to work for their paychecks .If I'm short on cash, the government does not take care of me. The whole WELFARE system needs to be abolished. It is all about the choices people make, and I am all about freedom of choice, but don't ask me to make up the difference. If you can't make a living with what you are doing, CHOOSE something else.

Do understand what kind of "welfare" this even is??? Lol if u did u would know that it's not like a welfare check or foodstamps & it's certainly isn't because they need a handout. Maybe u should check into Subsidy before u run ur mouth lol. If u owned a farm & did any kind of farming giving to oklahoma what it needs to survive then maybe u would understand. This is a tax u file at the end of the yr on the property u put ur blood sweat & tears into, sometimes u make money back from whatever it is u farm & sometimes u put as much as 6 times the amount of money into & don't even as much as balance out ur labor goods & crops. Do a little more reading before u think this is welfare cus trust Eddie Joe Norton ha never been on not needed "welfare" lmao hell my father in law I probably worth 20 times what u on here running ur mouth will even make in 3 lifetimes. FACTS learn them sometime!!!

I see two names on that list that I've known for many years. Welfare is not working. These people work from sun up to sun down I know for a fact. Don't get hung up on the dollar amounts if you had a clue what it takes to run a business you would keep your mouth shut.

The merritts are From Virginia. The elder moved here from Virginia. Bought lots of land. Pretty sure all thier owned land is now rented by local farmers. They are the least of the problems.'Other' farmers; #1-6 are the people who "suck" funds from the system. They are responsible for the 'plant for a check" theroy. Once they figured out the fine print, the checks keep on coming. The fleecing of america, right here at home.

Aren't these totals from 8-9 years ago? How do you know they haven't gotten less or more? What difference does it really make? They are working, aren't they? The difference between these subsidies and welfare is that the government pays these people to farm, therefore "earning" subsidies which the government benefits from, also, in taxes on the goods produced. The money is mostly used to purchase equipment and pay labor. The other is a giveaway program of food and money to people who, for the most part, do not work. There are users and abusers of the system in all walks of life. I am not in approval of anyone "mooching", but if you have not farmed, or raised cattle, you really don't know how all of the programs work; Likewise with the welfare program. Jealousy does not wear well on anyone.

I have worked for 3 of the people listed on this list and know more of them. I do not know your father in law Mr. Norton. Perhaps he is the 'good one'. But rest assured this IS a give out of tax payers money. I am not an ungrateful pencil pusher and i have worked an honest day (on some of these farms) for the last 15 years and i can PROMISE you none of this money goes to pay labor. It goes to pay for the wife a new car every 3 or 4 years. It goes to put the beloved children to college. It goes to line the pockets of the farmer who can sit and brag about how hard they worked (all of the hard work is done by hired hands) to build their quarter or half million dollar mansion, which in truth was a gift from dear uncle sam. Just think if all the money gifted to farmers nationwide was divided up to give EVERY tax payer a break, not just the farmers. Just take this greer county list, over 10 million dollars, and divide it by greer county citizens (6082 in 2012). Math says that is 1,644.19 per individual in tax credits. I understand not everyone is a tax paying citizen, so this number would be more if it was granted to only people who payed taxes. Working people deserve this break too, not just people who own farm land. My sweat on these farms deserves some of this money which never found its way there.

The damn farmers should go out and get a real job. If they can't make a living on their own by farming, they need to do something else. This is total bull$hit for the taxpayers having to take it up the wazoo to support these bum farmers and ranchers. The government needs to get out of agriculture, and let these scammers swim or sink on their own.
