I visited Altoona almost two years ago with the idea of buying a home and moving there so I could be close to my family in PA but circumtances and even some forum participants here discourage me of that venture since they were complaining for a variety of reasons.
Again... how is Altoona these days. I love Altoona. Compare to other cities the situation didn't seem to be that bad at the time that I visited. Has anything change at all? Any comments.... I would like to go back at least to visit. Thanks for any response.

The drugs and crime got alot worse.Altoona is NO place to raise a family or start one.The cost of living went up because all the low lifes that our on section8 and welfare. Then you have all the people from New York Phill. AND New Jersey coming in selling drugs.

Typical slant from an Altoid- "people from New York Phill. AND New Jersey coming in selling drugs."

Guess what, they are coming since there is a heck of local demand from Altoona residents. If there was no demand, they would not come. Don't blame it on the out of towners.

Altoona, at least parts of it, is a safe, decent town that still provides a quality of life that you cannot find in many mid atlantic towns. Hollidaysburg is a great community. Jobs are difficult to find, at least decent paying ones, but the cost of housing is very inexpensive. If you can line up a job, it is not a bad place. Traffic is nonexistent. While we do not have the cultural amenities, there are great outdoor activities nearby, lots of amusement parks, fun stuff for families. At the end of the day, you need to raise your kids, not the "town" you live in. Unfortunately, drugs and crime exist in every community, and it is not due to people from out of town- it is due to lousy parenting.

Tammy, it is spelled "radius", not raidus...stay in Martinsburg. I am sure no drug addicts live in the Cove. LOL
Pray to the God that you believe in and spew hate for drug addicts, gays, those of different color. Isn't religion about caring for those of our fellow man ? This is why religion results in so much hate and paranoia...
