I am looking to start a Catholic Heavy metal Band. My influences are the Deftones, Earth Crisis, Fear Factory, Soulfly, and others.

Post if you are interested. My best friend is out drummer and I am playing guitar now and sing, but would like to just sing or play guitar.

Hope to hear from you.

Why do you say that? Seems like a pretty big stereotype to me. Heavy metal is a style of music, the content of the words and the "feeling" of the music is basically preaching the gospel of Christ.

I think you are angry, someone, maybe a Catholic, or the church has done something to offend you at some point.

But, the association of Heavy Metal with anything evil is really so out dated and ignorant.

So what happened to make you hate Catholics so...

Seems like you want to attack me, but when I give you a chance to explain your point of view you offer that response. Come on. I study systematic theology and I read the bible daily. I have two kids am happily married, I am a conservative who works hard at my job.

If you want to learn more about Catholic theology then site a specific point please, I think if you are going to call someone out for being a bad Christian you can at least have an honest debate with me and not give me one line answers.

I'm also Catholic and I would like to take this opportunity to answer some of you misconceptions, if you don't mind:

Catholics also believe in one God.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 202

"We firmly believe and confess without reservation that there is only one true God, eternal infinite (immensus) and unchangeable, incomprehensible, almighty and ineffable, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; three persons indeed, but one essence, substance or nature entirely simple."

Catholic do not believe that priests are God nor they are divine in any way. They are sinners just like anybody else. However, God does appoint in the Church leaders as in 1 Corinthians 12:28 "And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers"

I know many protestants that turn to their pastors whenever they are having difficulties.

Do you mean to say that protestants believe that their local pastor is a God? I don't think so.

While it is true that the sexual abuse did happened, clergy sexual abuse is a problem for ALL of us. Most clergy, be they Protestant, Jewish or Roman Catholic, are good men with good intentions and are not like the fellows in the following accounts.

From an article written by Sam Miller, prominent Cleveland Jewish businessman

"Let me give you some figures that you as Catholics should know and remember. For example, 12% of the 300 Protestant clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner; 38% acknowledged other inapprop riate sexual contact in a study by the United Methodist Church, 41.8 % of clergy women reported unwanted sexual behavior; 17% of laywomen have been sexually harassed. Meanwhile, 1.7% of the Catholic clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia. 10% of the Protestant ministers have been found guilty of pedophilia. This is not a Catholic? Problem."

Scripture teaches that purgatory exists.

Christ refers to the sinner who "will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come" (Matt. 12:32), suggesting that one can be freed after death of the consequences of one’s sins. Similarly, Paul tells us that, when we are judged, each man’s work will be tried. And what happens if a righteous man’s work fails the test? "He will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire" (1 Cor 3:15). Now this loss, this penalty, can’t refer to consignment to hell, since no one is saved there; and heaven can’t be meant, since there is no suffering ("fire") there. The Catholic doctrine of purgatory alone explains this passage.

If Jesus was so against wine, why would he chose to be his first miracle tuning water into wine? John 2:1-11 Why not Grape Juice or grape Kool-Aid?

Hi Amber,
I am also Christian. From my point of view, asking me if I'm Catholic or Christian is like asking me if I'm a human or a man. Is the same thing.
I also believe in the Bible. But how do you know that the Bible is the word of God?

As far as any remarks about christians, if a person was a true christian they wouldn't be so narrow minded and insulting to those around themselves, over the internet or what ever. As far as catholic's they have the oldest Bible and protestant's means they where not satisfied with the catholic faith and broke away and started there own faith which I personally am not saying there is anything wrong with that, after all we have freedom of religion in this great country of ours.

Thank you Javier it is nice to know there are still people out there that defend the faith. The CCC is the best source to explain what we believe.

Enough. If you have questions about what Catholics believe read our official teachings at this link at the vatican.
