Why is Iowa so liberal?

Since 1984, A republican candidate has won Iowa once (2004). Why? State is like 98 % White. Why isn't Iowa conservative like Kansas and Nebraska? Or the Dakotas.Eastern IA is mostly farmers. Aren't farmers less dependent upon the GIVERment? How could anyone support gay marriage and abortion?

Thanks. I am not from here. Bues Moines is the only large city. Omaha and Wichita are larger than Des Moines. Is the local GOP needing a shakeup?

Maybe they know something you don't. Not all the farmers in rural Iowa share your opinions (as in most of the New England countryside, and parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and upstate New York).

The eastern half of Iowa is VERY liberal.How can a community with barns, pigs, seed companies, etc. vote for Obama? You would think these people are self sufficient. Since the days of Nussle and Leach, the eastern half of the state elects liberal people. People in the Dakotas, Nebraska and Kansas don't vote for people who murder fetuses and support gay marriage.

Maybe many Iowans do NOT hold negative stereotypes of large segments of the population, do NOT vote out of hate for people who are different than they are, do NOT believe that everyone who isn't like themself is in a state of dependency, and DO believe that people should have some privacy and personal choice of how they run their personal affairs even if they wouldn't make some of the same choices. Maybe Iowans are fairminded and simply vote for what they believe is best for public policy and society, as opposed to running around putting down people and engaging in the politics of resentment?

To many people fail to acknowledge the results of a liberal society. They fail to reckonize how Chicago is doing and to see the results in California. In fact many people that flee these places due to the results end up voting for the same unsustainable social programs that failed them before.

Have you considered the fact that Europes middle class lives below the standards of our poor? And what of the ongoing protests of their citizens and the higher rate of violence? Are you willing to accept these things?

There's a huge difference between providing people with what they need and allowing them to choose their wants. Here we allow those collecting aid to choose and most often it is poorly. While liberal ideals are often good it's just not financially feasible in it's current form. A strict program to get able people out of the system needs to be implemented. I am of the opinion that $156 per day in social benefits per household in this nation is a bit excessive.

I'm all for free stuff. I like getting $500 a month in free food and Medicaid is great if you ask me. It's fantastic that my family can qualify with an income in excess of $100,000 a year. Thankfully we are allowed to write off our new vehicles, home remodeling, maxing out our Roth IRA's, gifting our 7 & 9 year old children $10,000 each, motorcyles and boats and vacations. We had a great time at Disney World from Christmas to New Years this year. A special thanks to our accountant for pointing out we needed the $8500 deduction to stay qualified for our Medicaid.
