I have lived in Capitan for a year and tried to vote in this election. I was told, for the first time in my life, by Ms. Strickland, that I could not vote. Some snafu with my registration. Now I read this! Voting is one of the most important rights that we have as an Americans. Lets hope that Ms. Strickland learns how to do her job by the second election.

Capitan has reverted back to the Good Ol Boy rule, I understand the board is merely puppets for a gravel hauler, and the adult children of the good ol boys got the good police department removed...ChipN I'm sorry you had to live there for a year, maybe you can find somewhere honest to move.

Weren't these the same people that illegally campaigned for their candidates in the village newsletter on taxpayers money. If the judge went ahead and certified unsigned votes, what does that say about legal voting in Lincoln County. wink, wink. . . . . .

I understand there were problems with the C-C Gas Company as well as the Village of Capitan with the afore mentioned person. Lets replace this person before more happens.

Both the Clerk and the Deputy Clerk attended 2 1/2 days of election training in Albuquerque, at taxpayer's expense. The Deputy Clerk has attended in the past and worked at least 2 prior elections. Hard to believe they couldn't figure out that ballots need to be signed.

Chip, I believe you should have been allowed to vote on a provisional ballot. Check the New Mexico Municipal Election Code 1-12-8

For those frustrated at the state of affairs at Capitan Village Hall, rest assured that the newspaper is looking into it, from various angles. Chip, if you feel your right to vote was violated, I urge you to contact the Secretary of State's office/Bureau of Elections. Only by getting the state involved will anything be accomplished.

Go Marty, we commend you for stepping up to the plate as vanguard of our civil rights. Fair, balanced, investigative. Just like a newspaper should act.

CAPITAN RESIDENT, please take your caps lock off. If the judge approved the election knowing the clerk did not get the signatures for some of the votes then have another election and do it right. Shame on the clerks and the judge.

Why is everyone telling someone what to do, if Capitan Resident wants their CAPS on, so be it. And as for Marty, now I understand why you kept messing up the sports page, you were busy with other things. Have you said anything to the Capitan Girls??? You ended their season before they were done. Doesn't look to good in their senior scrapbooks.
I heard the problem with Mr Newton, there was a problem with his registration, fix it and vote. Why cry? Come on people grow up, take responsibility for your actions and maybe our youth will follow.

Lives in Capitan: I have no idea what you're talking about. Be specific. For the record, I am not the Sports Editor. I have nothing to do with that section. Marv Sanders and the girls have gotten plenty of positive coverage.

Lincoln Native: The Capitan clerk errored in not getting voters signatures. That's a fact. It goes against state statutes. So, to use your words, we are trying to find out why and fix it.

The election was done right! The losers are just sore because their butts didn't get back in to do more harm to capitan. We did not need someone that had only been in town for 2 years. We need someone that knows capitan and what it needs. Not like the previous one!

All these people really don't have anything better to do with their day. They have always caused trouble in capitan. The main one lives outside of capitan. Her little husband used to be the major of capitan, and still lived out side the city limits then. I would like someone to start an investigation on what was going on when he was in office. I'm positive that there were things that were not kosher. I think that is why she is alway causing trouble, to take the eyes off of what they did.If they would move, no one would care!! She also has a puppet that owns one of the resturants here in town to do some of her durty work. And that's because she doesn't live in town. WHY are we letting her keep this crap up??? Come on Capitanians, get some balls!! Jealousy is the name of there game, their little gregory didn't win. Oh well! On with the GOOD of Capitan.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Virgo

Someone is being headstrong and wilful, and absolutely determined to do what they want. Mercury is retrograde and it's a Full Moon in Cancer with a lunar eclipse all happening tonight! This could lead to some heated discussions and possibly even rows, as you argue the toss back and forth. It might be best to accept that there's very little possibility of reaching an agreement rather than to get locked in a stubborn battle of wills. Besides, you don't want anything to spoil what promises to be a very enjoyable New Year's Eve. Have fun!
