Yeah DJL good story by WOOD ON LINE huh!
Its a PROPANE leak at Plains Marketing AKA Alto Underground Storage on M50/Alden Nash at the CSX railroad tracks.
Its a storage and distribution facilty that uses underground salt caverns to store large quantities of liquid propane for domestic and industrial use. This time of year the liquid levels are lower due to large usage during the winter months.

I live on 60th off Alden Nash less than 1/2 mile a mile away and we were not asked to evacuate and told us it was not mandatory just suggested. No one even stopped by our house to tel us what was going on.

I wonder what tank it was. They just had new tanks put in last year. Superior Energy Systems out of Ohio did the work. I wonder if it was one of their welds that broke. I guess not because they are saying it was an underground tank and Superior I believe only did above ground tanks.

woodtv you have it ALL wrong.

Red Cross didn't shelter anyone residents LEFT the area hours before the Red Cross came out.

You missed about 6 other agencies that were out working the scene.

Tell the full story or don't report it at all. CRAPPY reporting.

The Red Cross wasn't even informed until 7pm thursday night. I was taking a class there. They were getting ready To bring cots and blankets out to the site. One gentlemen had already went to the place the shelter was going to be set up at, but during an E.O.C. meeting the company who was responsible for the leak put the family's up in a hotel in Grand Rapids for the night.
C.E.R.T.(community emergency response team) was also on hand to assist.
