On October 31, 2017 Vargas sent this letter to all City employees:

Dear Employee:

It is my understanding lies are being spread about employees’ continued employment with the City of Blue Island. For instance, I have been informed employees are being told I intend to fire them. All of these statements are simply not true. I have never made such a statement and that is not my intent. My removal of the City Attorney was removing an appointed office. To the contrary, you can see for yourself how things have changed since my decision. Job searches are now posted on the City’s website. Employees who meet the qualifications for these appointed offices are encouraged to submit their resume as detailed in the job search.

Additionally, if you are ordered by any superior to do any type of political work to keep your job with the City, ignore these empty threats. These statements are also not true and would violate City Council Ordinance Chapter 34.02 and State law, 5 ILCS 430/5-15. Additionally, please be reminded that the aforementioned ordinance and state statute prohibit campaigning for an individual during compensated time. Please feel free to inform me if anyone has stated you will be fired by me or for any reason or are being required to do campaign work while you are on the job. This will be kept confidential and will be promptly investigated.

Sincerely,

Domingo Vargas, Mayor City of Blue Island

Let's see if he keeps his word.

To all city employees, two words come to mind.... "POLITICIAN" and "LAWYER" !
It has been said if you listen, and actually allow yourself to hear, a man will tell you His' Intentions. Most of you Officers are too smart for this. You've interviewed many dishonest people and you have had enough training and experience to know better. Quite frankly, Actions speak louder than words. Follow your noses. Smell that ? Use your eyes, Look at the Building Department, 911 Center, Fire and Police Department, streets and sanitation workers.
Don't fall for it.
Cover yourselves.

25,000 people in Blue Island. 1,700 vote for Joe. 2,400 vote for Vargas.

Why aren't more people voting ? How many registered voters do we have ?

Promise # 1
Is Vargas " Building a better Blue Island" ??????????
Promise # 2 "We need to work together"
Promise # 3 "Think outside of the loop"
He broke all 3 promises when he ran Cermak Fresh Foods out of here protecting El Raunchito. Cost the people of Blue Island 50 full time jobs and some part time jobs.

I guess Vargas has decided the people of Blue Island don't need more jobs.

Cermak could not get financing or meet set benchmarks and backed off.

That is what he has to show for the last 4.5 years. Pretty much zero economic development since Jason Berry left last summer. Who’s doing our city planning now?

I talked directly to Cermaks and your statement is faults. Where do you get your info ? Cause mine came right from the developers mouth.
Vargas was playing games with tax incentives and they backed out. Cermak has opened 15 stores with out any problem.
Vargas should be ashamed of him self.

He missed/no showed for committee meetings where he was expected to provide updates and progress. He may want to follow up with the committee if he truly wants to open the store.

Set benchmarks ? WTF is that supposed to mean ?
In other words, stranglehold regulations.
I'm sure they couldn't get the financing. This city is a dump anymore.

They have opened 14 or more stores and are in the process of opening more. I was told they had never had anything like this happen before.
Plane and simple, Vargas has absolutely no creditability with me. He has never held to his word with me and can not be trusted. That's why I followed up directly with Cermak.
You will not see a Cermak Fresh Market in this run down dump called Blue Island. Nor will any other grocery store what to open here because of Vargas's business sense.

He was protecting El Ranchito.

What the hell is the so called community development committee doing with the business district tax that they needed so badly? You take a look at Old Western and you will see. Not a damn thing.
What the hell is that lean too building doing down there? Increasing property assessments ?

He's Building a better Blue Island.

This is a balancing act for City Officials - up to and including the Mayor. Attracting and negotiating the best businesses and deals for the residents while not compromising the long term future of the city through give-aways that businesses may want. Not being directly involved it sounds like both parties had issues .

I my opinion, while we need more businesses we need a solid department store ( like a Kohl's , Target ... not a Dollar store) and drug store rather than another grocery store!

Is anyone working on that or do we just react when a business expresses interest?

There is no doubt that BI has plenty of vacancies for business to move in to. I wonder wants happening with the 1% sales tax we pay for community development? They don't have a plan for economic development. They just go with the flow. If that's the plan they will fail. They and a plan in 2005 it looked like a good one but it died with the economy and the great recession.

Loosing the Cermaks was a major set back. Lets see if they can recover.

A CVS would be nice, Starbucks, how bout a Panera Bread ? I doubt it.
