It would have been nice to get the whole story, before circulating this article. How come the fact that Mr. Rotter is ill, and in the hospital, did not get printed. This is outrageous, sensationalism at its worst.

Sorry, swapmeet vendors are not the ones that bring in business to the rest of the village. Most of the stores have no business because of the swapmeet.

Dirty Kitchens wrote:
How people can continue to patronize this place is beyond me. The kitchens at Alpine Village Inn and at the Deli repeatedly have gotten low rating from the health department. Although the are currently at an "A" rating, they have both had low "B" and "C" ratings within the last year.
If you're going to upgrade anything, upgrade the kitchens!
That is a lie since when is an "A" a low grade?
How people are quick to jump on the bandwagon.

I've heard many horror stories about the food at Alpine Village from reliable sources, that's why you won't catch me eating there. Bandwagon or not.

The best German food place ever was Bit Of Germany on PCH in Redondo. Not only did they have both light & dark German keg beer, the food was the real deal. From the exotic pig's knuckle to all the schnitzel, everything was beyond authentic. Alpine Village could never hold a candle to this long lost icon.

I know the Tylers, owners of the batting cages. I sincerely hope they sue the crap out of the owners for the way they were pushed out of their space.

I saw Wall of Voodoo there and The Surf Punks! Eddie Van Halen's Dad, Jan, played horn in the Polka Band there for awhile.

I hope they can work this out and fix up the Alpine Village. It's fun to go to their restaurant, and I really like the Alpine Market for great German products, such as the wonderful butters, breads, and those great Napoleons!

I've known the Rotters all my life; I've known the Village all my life; I know that the only thing this article has done is reported on one side of the story. Hans and Terry started this business 40 years ago and have been dedicated to the success of it; they have been blessed with continued patronage over the years and continue to have an age diverse clientele that shares in the atmosphere of food, fun, family,(and if you're over 21) drinks.

This "Torrance landmark" became that landmark because of the efforts of Hans and Teri! As an employee, I have seen their efforts firsthand. The public really has no idea how many hours they spend there, working tirelessly all over the property, and also in the community! This article seems to make the Rotters out to be disconnected business people who collect their money and stay at their "Rolling Hills home"; as if they are some kind of elitists. Everyone who knows the Rotters know they are extremely kind people that strive to create a welcoming atmosphere.

I am both shocked at what has happened at the Village and disappointed at how quickly members of the community turn on two people who deserve more respect than they are receiving.

Thank you to all who are giving continued support to Teri and Hans Rotter and the staff at Alpine Village.

By the way, it seems as though the article forgot to mention OUR opinions (the staff) about this; it seems as though journalistic excellence only goes so far.

I hope the comments of a 19 year old employee (me) are taken into consideration before any stubborn opinions become hard formed. Thank you for your time.

The place has needed an upgrade for a while now. I hope that whoever is in charge of the changes to come will take the time to do it right and make Alpine Village a venue that will attract people from all walks of life. The swap meet was pretty tacky didn't do much to attract business to the rest of the Village.

"What they did to these people is ridiculous", referring to the swapmeet vendors, what about what has been done to the actual businesses in the village because of a swapmeet. I have seen many of the stores go out of business over the years because of the swapmeet. Alpine Village once was a place where you could take your kids for enjoyment. In my opinion the swapmeet cheapen the old world charm that should have been Alpine Village. I

I agree the Swap Meet dragged the entire atmosphere of down. What does it have to do with a quaint little German village. It wasn't even a German Swap Meet. It doesn't fit.

It is about time the place get an overhaul. It will probably pick up in business if they make improvements. I am sorry to see the batting cages are go. The swap meet can go. The better swap meet is the Rodium near El Camino College. It doesn't fit in a German village.

I have been an on-going customer (shopping, dining, drinking, & dancing) at the Alpine Village since (?)1967. There used to be many small, unique, beautiful German shops and the small Tavern with the accordion player was very cozy. I always felt like I had "escaped" to some European Village. The current dance floor in the Alpine Inn is one of the largest in this area and the nightly entertainment is excellent for dancers. We dancers meet people from all over the world in the Inn. Through the years, Hans & Teri Rotter have always been very approachable & friendly. Negative comments: The appearance of the property has greatly deteriorated. More waitresses are needed in the Inn on weekend evenings. The Inn has a poor reputation because of some of the clientele it attracts and their observable activities. There should be a cover charge or minimum drink requirement.
I am a female, Caucasian, dancer and find comments like "Where else can all these divorced asian girls do their gold-digging with lonely old men?" very offensive.(Sounds like prejudice!)
Some of the men are specifically attracted to Asian women and there are many wonderful Asian women at Alpine who are not "gold-diggers". As for the men, there are some good men, there are some men who are also "gold-diggers", and some of the "lonely old men" are on the prowl for younger women.

I hope the deli will still be open. It's the only place I know to get Vegeta and good Hungarian sausage. The dinner/dancing has gone down hill bad lately. About 5 years ago, it was still fun to celebrate a birthday with kids, or have a company Christmas party. Now, just like one poster said, the lonely Asian goldiggers have taken over, and the food is horrible. Did I mention they raised the prices?
P.s. did i mention the gas prices wentUP!!! DAAAAAA

<quoted text> MAYBE THAT WAS "THE PLAN" ALL ALONG??
i can definitely tell u that it was not the plan of the Rotters to have their position taken from them by their own daughter and son in law...this was a power play by a member of the board and by the daughter and son in law of Hans and Teri...Hans and Teri are being forced out, and God help them, trying to stay.
