It is ashame the board of directors of Alpine Village made such a bad decision in removing the Rotters. The Rotters are Alpine Village.

I looked forward to Octoberfest each year and always entered a team in the stein holding contest to support the nonprofit fundraising. The fundraising for nonprofits on opening day of October Fest is legendary. For many it was their biggest fundraiser. This year I and hundred of others will not be participating.

The Rotters were loved by all who went to Alpine. They were the ultimate hosts. I held several events there but I will not have another until they are back. I hope the board of directors come to their senses and put the Rotters back where they belong!!

Mike, you certainly don't know the "whole" story. Everyone appreciates blind loyalty that you are showing the Rotter's. Don't you think it's possible the BOD must have had a very hard time making this decision to 'fire' the Rotters after 40+ years of service? I'm sure they had really strong reason with a lot of compelling evidence. I bet it was a difficult decision too for these businessmen/women to make. As someone once said, there are 3 sides to every story. Please be open minded and embrace the new management. You don't know - things could end up even better than they were!

I am just expressing my opinion, the Alpine Village reminds me of Revolution Street in Tijuana. If you feel differently, why don't you drop your children off at one of the swap meets they occasionally hold.

There's criticism & constructive criticism. Your opinion is worthless to anybody who reads it. It does nothing to improve society....maybe it's a direct reflection of you?

Shinjo has just as much right to express his or her opinion on a public forum like this as you do or anybody else does. Whether that opinion be positive or negative in your opinion.

What our society won't tolerate is censorship or stifling of other's opinions if they don't agree with yours as you are trying to do. That truly does not benefit society. I won't get insulting like you did and talk about how things reflect on one's person.

Read closely, the new management team consists of Andy Weller and his wife, the Rotters' daughter, so the Rotter family isn't completely out of the picture. It's the daughter's turn to run the show:

my understanding is that the only person hired by the BOD to manage AV is Andy and his wife is not employed by the Alpine Village or Market
the Weller's had nothing to do with the firing of the Rotters as this was a decission of th BOD after many bad decisions made by the Rotters I think it is time to move on and support the new management that even thou is done by Andy it is supervised by the BOD
the new BOD is trying to refurbish the place and bring it back to a place where everyone can enjoy
regardless of ethnicity

People please be warned that Zoe is a stockholder in Alpine Village and as such she has told many lies in another thread about Alpine Village because she has a vendetta against the Rotters and she has a financial interest in the sinking ship that Alpine Village is.

Her "regardless of ethnicity" statement is a sad attempt to admit that most all of the original GERMAN customers who frequented Alpine Village years ago but who have fled in droves will never return to the cesspool that the German Themed Village is now, and no amount of pavers in front of the faded out dirty shops will change that.

Tijuana Village might be a good choice for the next name. The place gives Germans a bad name and they hope the name will be changed soon. There is a Little Tokyo - why not a Little Tijuana right off the Harbor Freeway??

As a stockholder that is all Zoe cares about anyway - the dividends.. Lets just get it over with and rename it now...

There were at least two of us saying that no way would they get all the permits and the construction done in the time they had to do food and beverage service out of a new Beer Garden. Zoe told us we were bing negative and we were wrong and just wait and see, it will be the best Oktoberfest ever!Well, Zoe, we weren't wrong. Just as we predicted, they are not going to be able to do food and bev service- they have to run it out of the restaurant. I say they are fortunate they were even able to get the pavers and tent done in time. The reality is not pretty, but that's what it is.
I sincerely hope that the new management of AV gets its act together and gives the village the makeover it needs and that they can turn business around. It would be sad to see the business continue to limp along as it has for years or worse, close completely.

(Zoe)
P?S: my understanding is that they will make the food and the retaurant and cater to the beer garden what is wrong with that?

I said that the October Fest will be on unlike some of you that said it will never happen I never discussed how the food will be done
they are doing the best they can with the mess the Rotter's put the new management in... they demolished the beer garden and did not have the permits necessary in place for the new tent and pavement. The new management had to work fast and do the best they could and you have to give them credit that they are able to have the October Fest after all
they are advertizing and for those of you that think the food is bad the place stink please don't come for those of you that enjoy the October Fest and want to have a good time please come

(Village Problems)
What you said Zoe, is that this will be the "best Oktoberfest ever!!" What it will be is the most raggedy, dirtiest, rushed at the last minute, not really ready but gonna take the people's money anyway, didn't get the food and beverage area ready so we will run the food around in circles for a while before we give it to you, WORST Oktoberfest ever.

You seem to feel the need to over and over tell people that if they don't like Alpine Village they should not come. You don't have any idea how stupid that makes you sound? People will stay away from Alpine Village OktoberFESTER like they stay away from the plague, without the need for you to tell them.

Cater from the restaurant - what a hilarious way to put it. No thanks, Myself and everybody I know will take your advice and stay away. Finally some good advice from Zoe.

PS - I'm sure after the disaster is over you are going to lie and say this year's Oktoberfest was a huge success, the financial statements said so.. Bwahahahahaha - yeah we believe you Zoe....

It's nice that you go to defend someone's comments when you don't see what this person writes on a consistent basis. His comments generally serve no purpose except to cause controversy. Case in point:

about the Del Amo parcel sale:

RHE mom if you take my comments that seriously, then you are a true moron. You really think that I feel a prison is the best fit for the Del Amo mall empty parcel? If you can't tell, a lot of my comments are sarcastic but do indeed point to the fact that the South Bay has been going down hill for a few years now. The gap between the lower and upper class is rising and we basically have no middle class. Southern California really has a lot of issues and I am only pointing a few out in my posts.

I'm not taking your comments seriously, but they don't prove a point, you're not funny. Sarcasm is truly the lowest form of comedy. If you have a point to make, then make it. Pointing out that the middle class is disappearing is a good point. Stick to being articulate.

I agree management probably has a lot to do with the current state of Alpine Village but the demographics of Southern California have been drastically changing. You can blame Alpine Village for selling out in order to cater to a larger demographic and not the local Germans. It is sad but if you haven't noticed, Southern California is getting even more populated which brings even more poverty, gangs and a larger deficit.

I believe this part of the article below is over stated 20 to 50 millions annual sales
never happened

Others noted Hans Rotter's management skills had declined since he underwent heart surgery. They also said that the business - with estimated annual sales of $20 million to $50 million, according to business research firm ReferenceUSA - had long been neglected
