Note the statement, "Technically the United States is a constitutional republic..."
Key word, Constitutional. The Constitution and especially its Bill of Rights are what have made this country different and worthy of respect for over 200 years. The Constitution makes it a Republic. Without it, the rights of citizens have no protection.
A hundred years ago, any schoolchild would inform you with vigor that we are a Republic, not a Democracy. This is not a matter of semantics or political party labels. It is a matter of holding the Constitution as sacred and not compromising its principles for ANYTHING. Stop educating the next generation to know the difference, and the valuation of the principles will fade and the USA as governed by Constitutional law will disappear.
