Who all still has service. I have had service up until this morning. I have spoken to the one who is going to run it, apparently the county does own all the equipment and this will be a maintenance company to keep the service running. I agree who are we going to pay? And when will we know something. I can sign a 2 yr agreement with excede but want to see what is going to happen here. Anyone else out as of this AM?
I just came across your post this morning. Here in the panhandle of FL most everyone's service is still working. Have you tried rebooting the modem? FYI, I've had one of my customers lose service and in his case the system had booted his MAC address out of inventory, there is NO solution for this. I gave him my test unit to use so he can remain online. You can go to Real Florida Magazine website and about 6 links down you'll see an interview I did about Mainstreet right after the shutdown happened....it might answer some questions. Hope this helps. BTW, I sell Exede here at my store, Clear Choice Satellite in Chipley, FL and everyone has been very happy with the service and speeds. If you get Exede via Dish Network (the way I prefer) the bill is less and you get 10 gigs/mon vs 7.5 gigs/mon going directly. I buy my equipment from Albany so you aren't too far away. Call my store if you have any questions.

The service was great after the first month. Once they got the bugs worked out. Love it! Never lost service speed was fine for the medium package I paid for. Very angry I didn't get an email warning me of the impending shutdown. I just no longer have an internet service. That's BULLSHIT!! They can email me a bill, but not tell me they're shutting down. But they got they're money for the month.

Steff. When the government shut down Mainstreet BB they did so with NO warning. All employees were immediately fired, once again, with NO warning. They had no way of contacting customers because when they learned that they were fired they had to leave. The only way I knew what was going on was that my area rep called me right after he got off the conference call...the conference call informing him that he no longer had a job. I personally sent out emails to everyone we had sold and installed the service for. The government gave them assurances that everything would continue on and sales and installs were being performed right up to the moment that they were shut down. I was actually on the way to an install myself.

You mentioned that your service stopped 2 days ago. Try unplugging the unit from the electrical outlet (don't disconnect any cables) and give it a minute or two and then plug back in. BTW, the MAC address is the unique serial number that your modem has. If you have the one-piece indoor unit then the MAC address is found on the bottom of the unit. It will say MAC:*********

I too am furious over this company taking the 2.5 and not being responsible with it. I was a customer of MSBB also for over a year and in that time frame I had plenty of problems to begin with and then a few every now and then which led to long phone convos with their uneducated "tech-support". One time I made it up the chain of command and spoke with Randy Lindsey. I even put in applications to work for the company after having 4 different techs come to my residence and I realized what caliber of employees they had. I would like to see a company take over the assets and keep it running. They were advancing into Baxley & Hazlehurst, GA which opens up more potential customers due to the amount of rural homes with access only to Satellite internet and Verizon's data capped Mi-Fi. Satellite is good but pricey and then again 10Gb/ month. I'm not sure about most of you but I have a 4 year old who watches Netflix religiously and that 10Gb a month would be nothing but a trial run for my household. I am a true supporter of the technology used to provide service to the customer base and hope to be involved with it one day.

Mainstreet is gone and Shane Turner has kept it up and running. I was panicking when I heard they were closing. I was calling everybody that could keep me with Internet but there were caps on the GB and two year contracts. The prices for the Satellite was around $130.00 a month and reviews on every satellite company were nothing but bad. Didn't see a single good review. Thank you Shane and I wish you the best. You have truly been a lifesaver

As For mainstreet customers, do they suppose to come in and get reset up with the new owners or just go on the way they are or what? What is a customer service number now?

I am also in Colquitt and have had no long-term loss of service, but some days it gets interrupted for hours at a time and on other days it seems to come and go randomly. Would like to know who is taking it over? When? Will they have the current customer list or do we all start over? What about existing contracts: all they all void because Mainstreet went out of business? Does anyone know who/where to call about this?

I too lost money in the change. The first time I paid it was to Mainstreet and soon afterwards they shut and closed the door. The service now is a completely different company and has nothing to do with Mainstreet. So I had to pay again in order to keep the service going. Don't fault the new owners with what happened to Mainstreet

What company took over in Birmingham? Do you have a contact number for them? I would like to call them and see if they are planning to manage the entire system or just the system in your area. I have not lost any money, as I was a new custumer and did not have to pay anything up-front, but am trying to decide whether or not to return to a land-line service. I like what I have, but need a service that will be reliable long-term.

My service was pretty good for about a week after the shutdown and then it came and went and finally went. I pulled up their stupid pole in my yard and now have service through AT & T over my phone line just as fast and seems to be more dependable. I word of advice, if you sign at AT&T, don't have them send you a modem--if you do you pay $10 a month rental on it and you can buy a modem that will work and comes with the phone line filters fro about $50 at Wal-Mart

Maybe some of you city slickers have it made living in the city limits, getting all the cable and DSL while we in the county have had no choice in what we use to get Internet. Mainstreet was a good idea and it did work for a lot of people when it was up. It was the only thing we had that allowed us to have Internet at our homes. The funds was cut when Federal money was cut from financing the operation. I think the mistake the commissioners made is not trying to find some way to get internet into the county. I was told that Miller County will turn on cable to their county to test everything in October and the entire system will be turned on in March for the entire county. Seminole County has it in their county, even at the lake. Instead of all the bickering and fighting that has been going on, somebody should have been looking for a company to run the fiber optics county wide. We are in a new age and times have changed. Internet in the homes is getting to be just as important as the electricity that is run to the homes. And I am sure there is a company that they could find that could start the process to get Internet to every citizen in the county. I support Shane in what he is trying to do. I just wish our commissioners would wake up and smell the coffee and see the importance of the Internet and the need to act now!

until you get a commission who care about the citizens of the county instead of fulfilling personal agendas and playing the good ole buddy system nothing like this will never happen. i think its time many of the services provided by govt monopolies need to be privatized and then you see a service sector who cares about the people they serve.

The technology Mainstreet used is becoming outdated. There is a new wave of technology utilizing TV White Space for broadband to rural areas. It is more reliable than the WiMax technology Mainstreet used and has a greater distance than Wimax. Which means even residences further beyond the reach of WiMax can enjoy 3Mbps download speed broadband at an affordable rate and still live in the "boonies". It is still some time away, but approaching fast due to the demand of broadband and the political decisions to offer every household in America with a consistent and fast internet connection.

Why would the county commissionrs spend 2.5 million dollars to get into the broadband business just to decide to get out of it? Is it because they pinned the hopes of people on an outdated servce just to brag and then patch it up or a while?

LMAO - I hear the current provider Turner Broadband in Bainbridge Ga is making people sign up with a one year contract. A lot of subscribers have paid their monthly payments and were cut off because the light bill wasn't paid for a tower on the west side. This is too funny like Barney Fife Broadband. This is hilarious or not too funny if this happened to you. LMAO

Say what you want buddy, but Shane stepped in to try and salvage some Internet for some of us that have no other option. Barney Fife Broadband? What in the hell are you trying to say. Shane is trying the get the kinks worked out and he is also learning at the same time. Thanks Shane, my Internet is working great.
