I personally am glad to see University of Dayton not allowing Ghysels on the team until the matter is resolved. This shows good judgement, which is not what Springboro Schools has shown in the past. Remember a couple of years ago when Dr. Baker and the school board encountered the male teacher who had inappropriate actions with a group of junior high school girls while on a class trip. Springboro's resolution was to try and bury it from the public by having the teacher resign and not recording this info in his file so the teacher could get another job with children and no record of his indiscretion would exist. This shows poor judgement on the part of Dr. Baker and the Springboro School Board, people who are suppose to protect children. Of course the Ohio Board of Ed caught wind of this problem and passed a law to prevent other school disticts from pulling the same move as Springboro.

Once again poor judgement displayed by Springboro Schools, just like the poor judgement they have recently shown in going for another levy in August after voters overwhelmingly voted NO in March. More money is not what this school district needs, it's new management.

No way are we supporting any more levies from Springboro. Just read on DDN online about the new levy for Aug 5 and how much they are asking for. Two words - NO WAY!! Another two words - NOT AGAIN!! Another two words -#^$% Baker!!

Here's a quote from the DDN article.
"Superintendent David Baker said the spike in gasoline prices was the latest unanticipated expense draining funds in a district already adding about 250 students a year." Wake up Baker! We all are being hit hard by the increase in gas prices. So hard we can no longer afford your too frequent levy demands. Oh by the way, interesting new tactic. Not only the high schoolers won't get busing, but Springboro is going for the daycare kids. This should now cover voters at both ends of the enrollment. Sly, yet stupid. Springboro School board and Dr. Baker are only angering the voters more. I know my family with a total of 4 voters will NOT give more money to this sneaking, uncaring district. Oh, I wonder what Baker's raise will be this summer?

After reading the DDN article I have never been angier at the Springboro School district than I am right now. The district is going for six levies over the next seven years! What do they think the voters are, a gold mind! I don't care if these are renewals or new levies, this is poor management. We all know it doesn't take as much as they say is required to educate one child and I am sure most voters would agree that an increase in class size to 30-35 is just fine. Maybe 20-25 students per class is ideal in the eyes of some edubrueacrat, but reality is another thing. I say the opposition organize and litter our district with the ignoring signs like the prolevy group does. What would be our slogan...Save our Retirement...It's for the Family...NO Means NO.

I have coached for the district, supported their bands, attended their plays, bought all kinds of junk for fundraisers, and donated for all kinds of programs over the last 15 years. No more, I am through.

I asked these questions before to get the discussion going and only had a few people respond. Lets try this again...

1. Is it possible to support the springboro school district AND vote against the levies - or are they mutually exclusive? why or why not?
2. What is the precise goal / purpose of springboro schools and public education in general?
3. What exactly is needed to accomplish that goal / purpose?
4. Has the 'keeping up with the jones mentality' helped or hurt school districts? how?
5. Do attempts to hold the district accountable (both educationally and financially) through defeating levies help or hurt the district? why and how?
6. What is more a more important indicator to successfully educating students? class size, more money spent per student, computers in every classroom, or parents who are involved in the process?

BOROGUY: FROM ONE BORN BORO not a transplanted Centerville thinking person - Yes (Q1)- Yes but with the situation You have to support the school not the BOE (Q2) to educate our future - but with BOE and Admin's throw $$$ at a problem educational methologies only raise a bunch of spoiled in debt wanna-bes 3)easy threat of cutting whats close to the wallet's heart (Q4) this question is its answer -get a "No" response keep going back until you get a "yes" (Q5) yes on all sub question - but like the guy in the desert who comes up on a water hole that is fouled - does he drink and take the results or does he attempt to make it to another watering hole (
Q6) none of the above; the desire installed into the students both past and present to make things work by thinking not throwing things ($$/fist/fits)- the Current BOE's fits are getting old and not impressive

Baker needs to go and we need to change the Board- we can elect 3 new members in 2009. Most in our community do not trust Baker. We cleaned house before and can do it again. The entire district administration and high school and board - is a good ole boy network, There is no check and balance on our high school administrators and they know it. They cover for each other and even lie for each other. Disgusting - and these are role models for our children.

Most high schoolers hate the atmosphere at the SHS and graduates are just glad to be gone. No fond memories of the high school administration. They have hurt so many kids.

Other districts are not like this. I know. The group in charge of our schools are arrogant and abuse their power! Let's clean house!

We will be voting no. It becomes a ridiculous slap in the taxpayers face to keep refusing to get the message...the message being NO. I absolutely hate the attitude of - you keep saying no, we'll keep shoving it in your face until we get the answer we want. That is not democracy, it's browbeating. NO MEANS NO. Guess what - gas prices are up for all of us...why should we suck it up and pay for yours? We have to make changes to afford our gas - catch a clue and do the same.

Let's clean house. I too have had bad experiences with the district. Parents are treated as the enemy - there is no true concern for kids. The district administrators - Baker, Hook on down to the high school - just want to look good - and keep that "excellent rating" NEWS FLASH - we have great schools because of the socio-economics of Springboro - parents that live here are mostly college educated and put an emphasis on education - hence -smart kids - good students - good schools. The district and high school admin continues to pat themselves on the back - and puts out a lot of PR about how wonderful they are.

Maybe they should spend less time monitoring facebook, my space and text messages - trying to dig up dirt and worry a little bit more about how they treat kids!

That Baker dude is just a - well, let’s just say it starts with a “D” and ends with a “Bag”; and in German it means shower. Know him somewhat personally; and D-Bag is about the best I can say about the guy. He is out to make Springboro taxpayer his little Biotch…

I posted the same on Dayton Daily forum but felt compelled to comment here also...

I live in Sboro and usually support these levies but now I am questioning. Six levies in seven years! Come on! Plus Dr (?? Really) Baker seems a bit full of himself to and on some personal mission to drain taxpayers senseless. We (three of us in my household) will be voting 'NO' on AT LEAST the next six levies that are put on the ballot. Six levies in seven years - my @ss!!

As someone has already stated - first vote down the levy then clear the slate of INCUM candidates then give baker the retirement that he has earned then fire the adminstration (top2bot) and get some people who will work for the KIDS and voters and finally for their pocket books

I just went back to the postings over the month of May - interesting Some think that $$$ and new buildings and the accoutrements that come with New mean better education. while others are just asking for a responsible spending from our BOE. Well I have been living in the Boro Area over double the years that anyone here has posted and been in the Boro educational system as a student, teacher, parent and grandparent and it comes down to thought -$$$ doesnt teach anything good. Parents, teachers, staff accomplish that. From what I have seen springboro fails on all points and until someone explains how you can improve it by throwing good monies after bad - I will vote "NO"

here's the arguments against my post:: more $$$ = better teachers : nope just better paid bad teachers. Educator who can teach and love to teach want a fair wage (Boro's average is equal to most in the state) :: smaller class room size will allow for more quality time : Nope students who want to learn will learn - what you need is willing educators - I have been in the school 15 minutes after the last bell and the teachers are trying to beat the buses out of the parking lot. more to come

Boroman, excellent summary. Now, let's get started. How do we proceeed in throwing out the present super and board. Do we need to set up a committee? Remember a few levies ago when the opposition had signs made up? Of course we will need to do this right, since last time Baker and the boys attacked the opposition since they didn't have some expensive permit. The problem is we don't hold levy fundraisers..golf outings, to have an arsenal of funds like the prolevy goons. Community this is the time to act and take back our schools and community. I'm sure if the majority of residents were polled it would support we do not want to become an elistist community. We are already getting that reputation.

You can count on my no vote - again! Do they just keep throwing these levies on the ballot each time hoping one will eventually pass? Poor strategy, but can't expect much more from these people from what I have seen. Time to vote no and then clean house!

How about the Political method to start - give 5(your choice) neighbors over or just stop 5 on your travels and draw them into idea of each them getting 5 people on our band wagon. Lets see if there are any real Boro people left. at one time boro was a nice place to live and with everyone's help we can again - side note - mayor/council are up for adjustment as well - sending $$ to Miamisburg for their schools LOL use all the information on all that you talk to
