When you have little children and live in a busy city like Easton, you buy those rubber things for the door knobs so they can't get out of the house. My daughter has them on her doors and I can't even get out sometimes. They are very hard to turn. Even if you have to put them on there bedroom doors on the inside would be better than having them outside wondering around. Why did it take the mother till 9 o'clock to call police. She should have been up earlier than 8 o'clock. That gave her 1 hour to look for the girl. I don't know too many mothers with a 2 year old that could sleep till 7 o'clock let alone 8 or 9. WAKE UP LADY!!!!

What the hell kind of world is this? A few years back a fiendly cop would have knocked at the door to return the lost child to grateful mother. Now we snag the kid and interogate the mom in front of government authorities!
I suppose if she locked the kid in a room she'd be screwed in the event of a fire OR perhaps accuse her of imprisoning her child. Perhaps it's her fault she slept?
When I was 5 I wandered off and wandered in the neighboring woods for hours. My mom panicked.. called the police. A couple of patrol cars went out and eventualy snagged me and took me home miles fom home. BIG STINKING DEAL.. it happens. I was a stinker and that was the long and short of it. Mom today would have been grilled & me taken possible away!! What the hell's the matter with society???
Kids are kids.. I am so grateful for all the times I pulled kiddie crap in those times not these.

Granted, I would agree that maybe she wasn't doing crack, but this incident is showing her irresponsibility. Luckily, the toddler didn't get hit by a drunk driver or anything. THEN how would this woman feel? She needs some parenting classes or something so the child doesn't wind up dead someday. I hope C&Y checks out her house FIRST before releasing the child back to her. If the mother isn't responsible enough to have a door properly secured, then does she have the chemicals under her sink locked up? I would doubt it.

it can happen

this actually happen to a friend of mine last week. her one and a half year old opened the locked door. luckily she found her just a few minutes later a few doors down. toddlers are fast and quick! things happen in seconds.

dope wrote: if she wold put down the crack pipe she would know Who are you to judge a persons character that you don't even know? Media doesn't tell the whole truth. This was a misfortune for the child to not be returned to mother right away. I'm sure this is a lesson learned and the mother will make sure her home is child proof. Isn't that what life is about....lessons learned from the mistakes we make? You need to rid of your negative energy!

WFMZ's website quotes this mother as saying "she has been unlocking the door lately" and she still didnt put a safety lock on the door. This child should be taken away from her, what if she was hit by a car or kidnapped?

THIS HAPPENED IN MY HOUSEHOLD, BUT THE LITTLE GIRL DID NOT GO OUTSIDE. SHE OPENED UP THE DOOR AND SHUT IT LOOKING FOR POPPOP. WE ARE THE VERY RESPONSIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO THE CHILDREN. BE THANKFUL THE LITTLE GIRL WAS NOT HURT AND ALL YOU ASSES THAT WOULD RATHER THROW THE MOM IN JAIL AND LET THIS LITTLE GIRL GROW UP WITHOUT ONE WELL THAT IS LEADING TO OTHER PROBLEMS. I HOPE YOU DON'T KEEP THIS LITTLE GIRL FROM HER MOMMIE!!!!THAT WOULD BE THE CRIME !!!!!!!!!!

Amused wrote: <quoted text> What are you trying to say? I think the thought there is that a child will usually turn to/ look for its mother before anytone/thing else. So if this child is 'out' looking for the mother, then the mother probably is not usually around or 'in'. I see their point- the other side is how often the kid is allowed INSIDE. I drive into that neighborhood regularly- and slowly- as even very small children are outside without adult supervision. I've read what others are writing about curious tots but we aren't living in 1950 or even 1980- parents need to adjust to the increased population (including more creeps)traffic and other dangers. Your kids are not going over to Mr. Wilson's for lemonade anymore. Those door alarms are a good place to start.

I look back and wonder how I survived my childhood with some of the stunts we pulled. Of course if we did get trouble and our parents found out, watch out.
