Good article. It is important for all people to know that anyone can be affected seriously by the swine flu. I just wish the world had more H1N1 flu vaccine for everyone who wants it. Since it takes 3 weeks for the vaccine to work I hope it arrives soon enough. Scary.

So it was a case of pneumonia which hospitalized Mr. Amalfi and not the Swine Flu. People need to get over their panic reaction to Swine Flu. Statistically it is a relatively weak strain of influenza. The mortality rate from the seasonal flu this year (including Swine) is no different than any other year.

We get it that the flu is dangerouus already. Now all we need is a place to get a flu shot. Don't you guys get it? It does no good to tell us how dangerous and deadly this flu is and then tell us there's no where to get a shot. It's sort of like telling us we have cancer and saying there's no cure. Perhaps you feel it's your job to spread the feeling of hopelessness? sheesh!

I'm glad your feeling better. What an awful experience. However, what a great way to turn it around and see what's important. God Bless and I hope you have a full recovery very soon.

My wife (59) is in the hospital right now on life support. She developed pneumonia after getting swine flu. She is fighting for her life. Do not take this thing lightly.

It is very important to keep washing your hands, minimize touching door knobs, elevator buttons, whatever! In my workplace we have hand sanitizer dispensers next to doors.

It's also important to keep your resistance high. Intense exercise to raise your body temperature to sweat out the toxins is one way. Eating plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits is another important reminder. Also take vitamin supplements and reduce junk food. Get plenty of rest.

Statistically, remember that more people contact the normal flu virus every year. Many times more people die from the normal flu virus than from the H1N1. This is normal.

My wife is in Kaiser and they have diagnosed her as having H1N1 for sure. Her symptoms are identical to this man. The problem is this thing hits everybody different. You can be walking around with it and not even know it. In some people such as myself it was just a little cough and congestion for a few days with a husky voice. I barely noticed it. It is easy to come in contact with someone who is infectious and doesn't know it.

We had better have a national health plan or be prepared for many w/o insurance lining up like they did in RB last month.

Because the government has done such a super job providing immunizations for this threat, you think they'll do better when they get to treat for everything?!?

Even people WITH insurance can't get the swine flu shot, because somehow, all summer wasn't long enough for the government to create the vaccine and get it distributed!

All summer? Google "swine flu" and you will come up with a lot of articles from last January. This is a little personal with me because my wife of 35 years is in Kaiser with swine flu as we speak fighting for her life, see my above posts.

Did anyone notice the first sentence in the second paragraph? It says "which doctors believe was the H1N1 strain". Believe? This guy was on his death-bed and they went on assumptions instead of actually testing him? Absolutely amazing. Also note he was not hospitalized for the swine flu but for pneumonia. I read an article from a doctor that said every reported case of those that were hopitalized had a staph infection. Yes, these people seemed to be perfectly healthy but was a hidden staph infection plus the swine flu what cause it? Also note I have yet to read a story about someone with a serious case of the swine flu where another family member also got it. Looks like it's not that contagious. This man's story is being used to increase hysteria.

There was a special on ABC tv a few days ago about the swine flu. The story focused on two men who are/were hospitalized with the flu and then it developed into pneumonia and then respitory and kidney failure. One of the men survived and came out of ICU whereas the other was clinging for his life on a resperater. This swine flu is unpredictable as to who will contract it and whether or not they will survive.

That is true. It is very unpredicatable. It is also very unpredictable who will react to the vaccine and who will not. There are also a number of stories of people that have died or have suffered debilitating neurological disorders from the vaccine. The swine flu has the potential to be very deadly but that does not mean everyone should rush out and get a toxic potion that has been untested as safe or effective. What about the stories of those that caught the swine flu from the vaccine? I was just visiting someone that has been sick for a week shortly after getting the vaccine.

Really? I wasn't aware that the government is the actual producer of the flu shot. Thank you for keeping us accurately informed.

from Newsweek Dec 2006-

In a highly unusual move, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has rescinded an award to an Islamic activist in her home state because of the man’s connections to a major American Muslim organization that recently has been courted by leading political figures and even the FBI.

Boxer’s office confirmed to NEWSWEEK that she has withdrawn a “certificate of accomplishment” to Sacramento activist Basim Elkarra after learning that he serves as an official with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). After directing her staff to look into CAIR, Boxer “expressed concern” about some past statements and actions by the group, as well as assertions by some law enforcement officials that it “gives aid to international terrorist groups,” according to Natalie Ravitz, the senator’s press spokeswoman.

CAIR, which has 32 offices around the country and bills itself as the leading Muslim-American civil- rights group, has never been charged with any crimes, nor have any of its top leaders. But a handful of individuals who have had ties to CAIR in the past have been convicted or deported for financial dealings with Hamas—another reason cited by Boxer for her action. The senator directed her staff to withdraw the certificate—which she routinely gives to community leaders in California—and asked that a statement she had previously made endorsing CAIR be stricken from the group’s Web site, Ravitz said in an e-mail.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Taurus

Keep calm! Your emotions are becoming increasingly heightened and intense today. As a result, you're likely to take things much more seriously than usual. That's wonderful if you're involved in a hot and heavy encounter with Mr or Ms Right, but it won't be such good news if you go overboard about silly trifles. If you're doing some last-minute shopping you'll want to be as extravagant as your budget allows. Or is it a case of Budget...? What budget?
