i think that is awaful i feel the county should pay the family he is taught to serve to the county his training is to surve the people in his community at all times the county should pay the family for the death of there loved one he was doing the job he was taught to do

instead of complaining how about setting up a fund and doing a fund raiser?
People will donate.
Forget the insurance companies.
They are not fair or honest.
Just ask residents of Fla or LA.
Insurance co. are a joke. Human kindness will prevail. Many 'small town' fund raisers have been known to raise thousands.

I can not believe this!!! It is an outrage. This man lost his life saving someone, not worrying if he was on call, looses his life an we thank him by denying his wife death benefits, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! A woman can pump out baby after baby, not take care of them and collect welfare, have her children put in foster care, we show her that this isn't right by giving her child support and welfare!!! Doesn't this seem a little backwards. That man's wife desires his death benefits and should be able to get it. Does anyone understand what people will do from now ....wait make sure all people have been called know their on duty then help, the time for all of that to occur is percious time that could easily mean life or death. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!!!! Give his wife the death benefits!!!!

Lets face it this is the sad world that we live in now its all about the money. That poor women is trying to raise a family and be mom and dad now and trying to make ends meet, and the county says NO... But you know all the big heads in the county are driving the nice cars going useless vacations and spending more money then they know what to do with. That why the middle man (this poor family) goes with out there is always a grey area. My prays go out to them.

If he wasn't acting in the capacity of a volunteer fireman (on duty) then no he shouldn't get the benefit. If he didn't have his safety gear on or had any amount of alcohol then the county won't and shouldn't pay. There are certain guidelines that need to be followed to collect the benefit.

Wow and people wonder whats wrong with the world today? A truly selfless, goodhearted person reacts like any moraly correct human with a conscious would and without a second thought rushs to the aid, saving 2 people in distress; in which unexpectedly ended his life. Now the county has nerve to turn their backs. Wow, whats wrong with this picture. Kinda leaves little faith in the human race and our so called higher ups. Nothing like proving the fact that they know all too well how to take, leaving nothing give. This man and his family deserve much more than a death benefit!!! It won't buy back his life!! So to the ones whom have been so quick to deny a little compensation to help ease the burden of a good family, re-think your snap, ever so wrong decision....Its time to step up to the plate and do the right thing for a change. My heart goes out to the family suffering such a horrific loss. God Bless, you remain in my thoughts and prays.

Your tune would be different if the person saved or saving was a family or friend. Things like this are the exact reason that it is becoming harder and harder to find volunteers. Thanks for nothing county government.
