Collection holds special meaning for local 'Oz' enthusiast
“Everything in my collection has a story.”
As Kansans observe Kansas Day on Tuesday, Judy Dunn, Mankato, will enjoy her Wizard of Oz collection and ponder the story's meaning to the residents of Kansas.
The Wizard of Oz has a special meaning for Judy, as that memorable film was released on her first birthday, Aug. 17, 1939.
Her collection began with the annual purchase of a commemorative plate from the Bradford Exchange. For eight years a plate depicting a Wizard of Oz character was issued annually. Since the purchase of the plates, the collection has grown to fill a guest bedroom, spilled over into other rooms in the large Victorian home where the Dunns live and notes fill numerous notebooks.
