I just emailed this letter to the editor of the Alma Times: Letter To The Editor This letter is intended to inform the citizens of Alma and Bacon County of a tragedy in the Bacon County Hospital System. My name is Jerry Greenway, formerly of Alma, now residing in Texas. I am the father of Kristi Strickland of Alma. As many of you are aware, Kristi was recently fired from her job at the Hospital. She was employed there for over eighteen years, with a consistently exemplary performance record. The reason for her employment termination was given as exhausted medical leave. Kristi experienced some serious medical complications during her recent pregnancy. Because of this, her doctor advised her to take medical leave starting on 22 September until the birth. The termination from her position as Assistant Director of Nursing includes the loss of medical benefits for herself and three children. The Family Medical Leave Act states that any employee who is off for medical reasons for more twelve weeks MAY be terminated. But it certainly DOES NOT mean that this individual MUST be terminated! This is at the discretion of the employer. Is this the correct way to treat a dedicated employee? In addition, the Chairman of the Hospital Board, Roger Boatright, informed Dean Strickland, Kristi’s husband, that the Hospital told him that Kristi was NOT terminated. The very next day, 30 January, her termination letter arrived in the mail. Then the H/R Supervisor told Kristi that Boatright had read the letter prior to it being mailed! Now, the H/R Supervisor is threatening Kristi that her termination reason will be changed to “posting items on Facebook”. What does this mean??? WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR HOSPITAL? Could the entire process be a conspiracy by the “team” of the CEO and Director of Nursing to terminate Kristi? In order to hire a family member in her place? The story behind this very unfair employee dismissal should be circulated throughout our county! Thank you and May God Richly Bless America and Each of You.

Its a good letter to the editor and regretful that you had to write it. What I wondered while reading your letter is why your daughter hasnt returned to work. Her pregnacy has been an extensive one, dont you think? The hospital has obeyed the law but I agree with you that an 18 year employee certainly deserves extra consideration that the hospital did not give. When did your daughter tell the hospital she would return to work, what date? If she said that was unknown, maybe the hospital did what they had to do? If she gave them a certain date within the next two months or so, and that would be a very long leave, maybe they should wait for that date and then act. It bad that human being are mean to each other. I look forward to the next life where God will not let injustices like this occur and those doing these kind of things will be in a different place where they are not in control. Romans 8:28 will prevail while we are on this planet.

I would't trust any of the bunch at the hospital. They're going to cover there ass any way they can. I think if someone works some place that long and has been a great employee that they should do everything they can to keep you. I know some places in Alma that will give you up to a year. Roger Boatright need to be run out of town for all the problems he caused. Can't wait for election for him to lose his seat as Chairman of County. I don't know how to get him off Board at hospital. No one seems to know who owns this place. Its for sure the taxpayes don't get to vote for the board members but Roger made sure he got them 4 million more dollars to piss away. The whole place up there ain't worth 4 million. I say the CEO and Roger both need to go

An employer can extend a leave at anytime through a medical leave(which is different from FMLA) or grant a personal leave. Being a medical institute they should understand the complications that can come from pregnancy. Since they charge us for it every time we visit the hospital

Kristie, make an appointment to see Brent Savage, the same attorney that represented John Tanner. He will make these ruthless people pay for what they have done to you. Glad to see Roger Boatright has finally been exposed. Give Savage a call at 800-626-1975 and you may never have to work again.

ROGER is such a liar. It is illegal for him to be the Chairman of County Commissioner and be on the hospital board. He does what he wants as hospital boardmember then sends it to himself as Chairman of County Commissioners for approval (SPLOST) . Cindy has always been ruthless. Kristi needs to get that attorney and help the two of them SEE THE LIGHT.

That way we may be able to break up that little group. How many signatures will it take to get the splost amendment over turned?

I agree with Former Nurse. Savage is licking his chops awaiting another client to stand up for their rights. You would think the BCH gods would have worked with Kristie, being that she was such a fine employee. Where is the loyalty to a Nurse that has gave so much to the BCH and to our community? Kristie, don't lay down and let these clowns get away with this. Nepotism should not be tolerated. Also, don't worry about a job, any hospital would jump at a chance to get a Nurse with your skills and work ethic. It's ashame that BCH and the patients of BCH has lost a jewel of a person. Good Luck and know that we all support you.

They are just BAD and EVIL people.

I wonder if this post will be erased as the last one. Or did the chairman have one of his "eyes an ears" to do away of it. The hospital packed up Ms Stricklands personal items without letting her return herself to get them, I'm sure if the chairman had someone of special interest to inquire about their family member keepin their job it wouldn't be a problem. Has for the chairman and the letter from the hospital, it sounds like someone lied or the right hand doesn't know the actions of the left. And, Mr Strickland should watch out himself, they will be after him because of all this. The chairman has two sets of eyes and ears for him in the fire and ems department reporting back to him with the goings on, can you guess who?

There's more than two. The grass between the EMS and the commissioners office has a trail in it. Charlies wife is in the admin now, plus a cpl more. That place needs a good cleaning out. Take the politics out of it and let those folks do there jobs. Dean would've made an excellent chief if not for the politics. As for the hospital. They couldn't afford to let Kristi go, she was one of the last good ones.

In response to the comment by "Grader Driver" - first of all, Charley's (spelled Charley & not Charlie) wife has a name, which u would know if u only knew HALF of what ur talking about, & that the position she holds is strictly secretary not "administration" she is in charge of billing & filing & what not....not ems or firefighters & their "jobs". You would also know that "Roger" is not who placed her in this position, it was the Commissioners which means the same people that also gave u YOUR position. So, if u have a problem with their decision, & obviously u do, y dont u grow the balls to take it up w/ them instead of griping about it over the internet under an unknown identity?

Now, he's using his positions on Boards and political office to hurt people. Recall his butt. Challenge that Hospital Board position. Call John Tanner and get his lawyers number. Cindy Turner needs to go home and ponder how her ruthless actions hurt the former employees of the hospital. She does STUPID things, then blames it on someone else.

MaF230 are you listening to yourself. Overturn the splost amendment??? You just posted on the new school forum about only a few paying taxes... at least with the splost everybody has to pay. Fairest tax there is. You know I didn't realize that there were so many JEALOUS people that lived in Alma. We have an excellent hospital and everybody puts it down. The City and County are doing good and you run it in the dirt. You all should be PROUD that we have a hospital to go to that stands on it's own. Check with surrounding counties and see how much of the tax dollars go to the hospital to keep the doors open. You would be SHOCKED!!! Check and see how many Citys and Countys have to borrow money to operate. Again you will be shocked. For a little town our size I think we are doing better than most. If you are so unhappy in Alma...MOVE!!!

Post the facts instead what you just believe. I'm personally not worried about other counties just mine. I don't use Bacon Hospital and never have and don't ever plan to.

Each splost item should be voted on individually rather than throwing them all together and using the scare tatic that if you don't vote for this amendment your property tax will go up. I didn't vote for it on last election because they were giving hospital 4 million. my 2 cents worth
