Small town violence

After the home invasion in Baxley, it seems like violent crime is getting all too common even in smaller towns. What's the best way to protect yourself if somebody tries to break in on you? What would be a good self defense weapon?

Barking Dogs (inside and out), guns, cell phone, and a plan. Best of them all is dogs. Criminals don't like them. Have a least one dog inside in case the outside ones are "silenced" . I tell my sons, no matter what you hear, do NOT come out and become a victim too. They know to keep their doors locked, dial 911, escape via window and run to neighbors if possible, or hide as best they can. That way, I can fight for us without having to worry about them getting in my weapons fire. I AM a survivor of violence and my instincts helped me survive. My attacker is in prison for life so no one else has to suffer at his hands.

It wasn't a home invasion, according to talk on the street. So, how do you protect yourself from people you know?

It's ashame that the world is coming to all this. People on drugs could careless about mankind they look for the high chase it all day do what they have to do to get it, don't care who they hurt. I am not just talking about teenager talking about women that have children, husband who has a wife and family. They don't care who they hurt and then turn around and say I am sorry and love you. Drugs is one reason that there is so many children in foster care, that they think there parents don't love them( well if they did they wouldnt do drugs) so many selling there body for the drugs. But us tax payers pay for them to go to dry out and then they are back on the streets.
So hard working people gets taken advantage of by these low life people but if we protect our self we are the ones that get into trouble and the others walk to continue there stealing, beating people up. If someone comes into my house and I think they are going to harm me or my family they a DEAD wrong cause I can be in any room or any of my family can and I have taught my family how to use a weapon for there safety

I know there will be smart comments,

@It happend to Me:
Thanks for the good advice. I had never actually even thought about dogs as a warning or deterrent. Sorry you had to go through what you did, but grateful that you shared your ideas here. Have a great night!
