It's a shame that GERMANY has more road freedom than
the United States does! Check the statistics on the
Autobaun, it has very few accidents and it's the
fastest highway on Earth. Most accidents are caused
by carelessness. Visit London, or some of the
Philipino cities, and you'll quickly realize that
the Americans are novice drivers. If the State,
County, or City "really" wanted to make our streets "safer", they would employ driver education
for the elderly and the youth! It's all about
taxes in the end.. Holdnout Hope

One of the sleeping children pictured in Hillary Clinton’s controversial “3 a.m.” ad has come out as a Barack Obama supporter.

Washington state resident Casey Knowles, 17, told KING5.com in Seattle that the Clinton ad used stock footage of her from eight years ago when she worked as a TV extra. And her family was shocked when they saw the ad for the first time Thursday.

“It’s really sort of ironic that my image would be used to advocate for Hillary when I myself do not,” Knowles told KING5.com .

Knowles said she is an Obama supporter who’s campaigned for him and even attended one of his rallies.

The Clinton ad showed several images of sleeping children, and then asked viewers who they wanted “answering the phone” in a crisis. The ad was widely credited with boosting her performance in the Texas primary.

The family does not own the footage, but Knowles said jokingly that she hopes Obama will get together with her to make a counter ad.

I personally like to have the Police visible. If the Police want Radar I think they should have it.

Whew, hicks with a radar gun. They'll really have
an excuse to pull over "Miss Goodlooking" or somebody they just plain don't like. I say we pass
a bill that prosecutes crooked deputies with double
the sentence and fines. They are supposed to be
a good example? Bob

I don't see the NEED is SO great for the deputies to have radar. There must be an alternate motive.
Some bunch of deputies have been relentless in
passage of this bill. If they would chase the drug
problem, I would support them, but that wouldn't be
much FUN, now would it, Barney? J Stub

I agree with Jerry, Tupelo Sheriffs Dept is always
making drug arrests, but our Sheriffs Dept has done
very little as far as I know. The last time I called for a deputy, it took them over 2 hours to
make it to my place. When are they going to find
time to shoot radar? Sincerely, Betts

A few days ago, a sheriff's car passed me going at
least a hundred miles an hour. A short time later
I found out where he was going in such a hurry, the
same place to eat that I was going. He was joining
his buddies for lunch. I don't think that was an
emergency. I think the law should apply to everybody, deputies included. Thanks, Will

I have had that happen too. Police cars pass me at a ridiculous amount of speed - only to see them at a restaurant a few miles down the highway. What is up with that?

Section 63-3-1201 "Any person who drives any vehicle in such a manner as to indicate a willfull or wanton disregard for the safety of person's or property is guilty of reckless driving".

Much better to get a speeding ticket than this showing up on your next insurance premium because this is exactly what you get from the Sheriff's Department if you are caught excessively speeding, which is what most people drive (at least 15 to 25 mph) over the speed limit.

Police are passing you at ridiculous speeds, Stride, because they know that you like to have them visible. They are just hurrying to get to the next location so you'll see them and feel all better.

You are right. I do like knowing the police are out there. I sure do.

If they get their wish, we'll find out "why" they
want this radar gun so badly. I don't think they
are outwardly concerned with safety as they are for
their own FORCED "respect". Shoot, why not just
name them all "Troopers". If the price of gas doesn't keep us from driving, I guess the deputies
will. I'd really like to know WHO is pushing this
dang bill anyway. I'll bet he is a pure Tyrant.
Remember the time Barney had the motorcycle on
Mayberry? He gave everbody a ticket. Howard

According to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Admin.) in MS in 2006 (2007 wasn't out yet) out of the 911 TOTAL traffic fatalities, 365 of 40% were directly caused by speed and 375 or 41% were alcohol related. The national average of speed causation is 32%. Having been a Deputy who has worked my fair share of these senseless tragedies, that MAY have been avioded by the driver thinking "right around this curve there may be a Deputy with a rarar gun", giving Sheriff's Depts. radar is a good idea.
Sen. Baria is pushing the issue. If you read up on the bill, it provides that all Deputies would have to undergo training prior to using radar. It also provides that the vast majority of any fine money collected goes to the state NOT THE COUNTY. This is an extremely important bill that will save lives. However I will add, that alot of Sheriffs are pushing for it, but I seriously doubt will use it. Alot of Sheriffs will see radar as a threat to votes and thus never buy them. If you see it as a threat, SLOW DOWN AND LIVE !!!!!!

I went back and researched it, but couldn't find anything on injuries. Given DUI and Speeding were neck and neck in the raw numbers with fatalities, I'd say injuries were probably close also.
