Inquisitive Gideon students investigate cold murder case

We really got excited about it because we actually got to talk to someone who was connected to the victim and knew a lot about the case. Eighth graders in Denise Yount's classroom at Gideon recently met with and interviewed Wanda Ross of Allenville, Mo ., the niece of Bonnie Huffman, a 20-year-old school teacher who was murdered in 1954. via Daily Dunklin Democrat

I grew up in Delta. I heard many stories about the Bonnie Huffman murder and who might have done it.

I grew up in the Bootheel and I dont remember this story, of course it was in the 50s but I have never heard my parents talk about it either... and they have been there forever

Tell me a little more about this time, I have a Mom and Dad both of which went to the school during this time. My mom is dead but dad is still alive.

there were 3 cabins on the diverson chanel behind seabaughs store i found when we lived there
i peaked in there was dust on everthing butyou could tell thay had left in hurry bones left always wondered if killer left there in hurry or was killer with them was a little kid at timeweard table set dishes full of bones and scrapes bad feeling there

I have heard compelling evidence that Gary Huffman did it. He confessed to a friend.

I WAS NOT BORN WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT I HAVE LISTENED TO MY FATHER TELL THE STORY SINCE I WAS A KID ABOUT HOW OLD DOC IN ALLENVILLE BACK THEN WAS WOKE UP BY EARL EAKINS AND A HIGHWAY PATROLMAN AND TAKEN TO A HOUSE BACK BEHIND WHAT USED TO BE LEMMONS STORE IN THE HILLS AND SHE WAS THERE AND ALTHOUGH SHE WASNT DEAD WHEN HE GOT THERE SHE DIED THAT NIGHT AND HE WAS TOLD IF HE TOLD ANYONE THEY WOULD GET HIM AND HE WAS FRIENDS WITH MY GRANDFATHER WHO IS LONG PAST DEAD NOW, THE DOC HOUSE MYSTERIOUSLY BURNED DOWN WITH HIM IN IT WHEN THE INVESTIGATION STARTED HEATING UP AND HE HAD TOLD MY GRANDFATHER WHAT HE HAD SEEN AND THAT HE WAS WAS AFRAID AND AFTER THE DOC DIED MY GRANDFATHER WARNED ALL HIS KIDS TO STAY AWAY FROM THOSE MEN AND KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT MY FATHER WAS ABOUT 10 YRS OLD THEN. HIS DAD DIED A FEW YEARS LATER OF A HEARTATTACK AND HE SAID THEY DIDNT SAY ANYTHING AS THEY WERE AFRAID THAT WITH HIGHWAY PATROL INVOLVED THEY COULDNT TRUST ANYONE.
