you missed some locations. I live in the south loop and I remember the hoopla when the filming was taking place including shutting down some of the alleys around State, Wabash and Balbo/8th and 9th streets. Or maybe those shots didn't make it into the movie? Or is this list not exhaustive?

Saw the movie last night. I was an extra in Crown Point. I grew up in NW In and my grandfather took me to the old Courthouse/Jail to give me historical perspective when I was 14 y/o. Having seen the place over the last 20 yrs, it AMAZED me to see how the construction crews transformed the second floor, "booking room" and other areas from a dilapidated bldg to what you see in the movie.
Overall, a great experience to be on a movie set. As for the filming, I wish Michael Mann would've gotten away from the "NYPD Blue" film technique of "camera movement". After awhile, it becomes annoying and distracting. I can handle "motion" in filming techniques (some of the people i overheard after the show said they were nauseous)and I can see its efficacy in a TV show...but in a feature film for 2+ hours...not so sure... |

Seeing it cuse Johney's in it. We only have so many stars and he is one of our brightest. My moms great aunt was one of the gangs girls from what my family tells me. The story behind the story is a real hoot. Johnny could just help us with that.

"There are thousands of apartments in thousands of buildings," said Patrick Muldoon, a locations manager. Eventually, they settled on a two-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot penthouse in Milwaukee -- chosen because of its Art Deco look -- that is owned by Don Meissner, 40, a real estate manager and investor. To prepare for filming, crews ripped out Meissner's kitchen cabinets, added period valances and draperies, closed up a doorway and installed a faux fireplace (all temporary changes"
They had to go all the way to Milwaukee to recreate that place? So, the real place "lacked the grandeur?" But ripped up this guy's place in Milwaukee. What a waste of $$$. Surely there's a suitable place in the Chicago area. I used to live near the apartment building they're talking about on Sheridan. |

I like how the article focuses on Chicago being the epicenter of the movie yet the picture used is the Oshkosh Public Library in Wisconsin.

I could of swore they also filmed on Newport Ave between Clark and Halsted...
It was quite a mess in Wrigleyville during this time... |

Saw the movie last night, it was great.
|

That's because Wisconsin is a nasty place to go. |
||||
What does that have to do with another Tribune article sounding more like an article from The Onion? |
||||
|
So much for Chicago trying to re-invent an image for itself; still known as a gangster town!
|

Because you nasty cheeseheaded weirdos need not worry about the affairs of us in Chicago. |

says the guy in Connecticut. |

JP_Chicago, I think the filming at Clark and Newport was for the movie "Wanted".

You left out the California Clipper at Augusta and California in Humboldt Park- they shot there for at least two days...

Hey idiot just because it says a certain state doesn't mean a person lives there.

Yes I Am polish why do you ask? |

Great, great work. My compliments.

I miss those days so I'd like to thank Mann, Depp and the Chicago Tribune for bringing it all back.
Oh, that Johnny, what a great son-of-a-bitch. That Biograph ambush---that's what it was;Johnny never went for his firearm---may have saved the skins of Hoover and Purvis but it broke the hearts of decent folks. |

In the final few minutes of the movie the shot pans out and shows a wide view of Lincoln Ave right outside the Biograph Theatre.
In the shot the stripes for the bike lanes are clearly visible. The shot shows "cobblestones" and fake streetcar tracks in the middle but clearly modern asphalt with striping tape on the sides. I drove down Lincoln Ave on one of the filming days last year and I remember the road being covered curb to curb with rubber mats that looked like cobblestones. So what gives? did they pick up the cobblestone mats and forget to put them back down? Did some actors play multiple roles as well? |

Craig, how do you know all of this??
