Budget impasse straining day care

Full story: The Morning Call

Last week's stopgap budget may mean 77,000 state workers are again getting paid, but child care center directors across the region say the budget impasse has left them scrambling to stay open without the state subsidies they are due.

''It's a risk,'' said Carbon County Commissioner William J. O'Gurek,''but it would be a disaster to have working parents staying home from work because they can't pay for child care. That's a strain this economy does not need.''

working parents taking responsibility for their children? we can't have that, after all it's the responsibility of the taxpayer to care for these children. NOT!

So, because the state can't get their act together, individuals and municipalities are stuck paying interest on money that should be automatic?

But the state reps and senators are making sure their pay checks are continuing...

The state is paying for peoples day care? This is unbelievable, they underfund our schools which is a state responsibility, then use the money for day care?
Ubbelieveable1
The state budget needs to not be passed until all of these ridiculous programmed are stopped.
Somewhere along the line we joined the Communist camp.

Spread the wealth- Not all parents have the ability to take time off work to be a stay at home parent, especially the people who are state-subsidized. That doesn't mean they care any less about their child or don't want to take responsibility. In fact, they are taking more responsibility by going to work and working hard, while ensuring that their child is receiving quality education.

Or they could live within their means, stay home and take care of their own kids and not rely on the government.

Ah, but that would mean the government would have no control over the kiddies ;)

The answer is simple. If you can't afford daycare, stay home and take care of your kid. If you can't afford to stay home with a kid, don't have one!

Those with children in subsidized daycare are almost exclusively single mothers. So who supports them if they stay home to take care of their children? That's right, the taxpayers. Wouldn't you rather see them working, bettering themselves, and providing an example for their children, rather than staying home and living on government support?

Well then they better find daddy to pony up the dough for daycare then. Nevertheless, why is it my responsibility to subsidize those who are not responsible?

AMEN!! I am SO sick of people whining about not being able to afford what they need for their kids. Here is a bright idea, THEN DON'T HAVE THEM. We only had one child because we knew we could give him what he needed and take care of him without ANY help from the government. Why in the HeLL should other people pay for your children. I don't know why I complain, it will never change. People just think they come into this world entitled!

Don't have kids if you can't take care of them!
If you are single, there is a thing called birth control. If you are divorced with a child you take what the court awards you from your ex because they always hose the man. Move in with family or move somewhere you can AFFORD and get a job to pay the rest~ Why the hell should the rest of us pay your bills? Did we make you spread your legs and not use birth control? Uh NO!
