Note that ACORN reported the violation. That makes them honest. Previously, a few dishonest people who were working for ACORN were basically grabbing names from the phone book or making up fictitious names in order to get at that per-registration pay. They were ripping off ACORN, which actually reported those violations, also.

Anyone can register as many times as they want to, but they only get one vote in the end. Multiple registrations are meaningless, except to the person perpetrating the fraud, who may be trying to get at the money (in the case of ACORN). If a name is fake, there will be no vote. If there are multiple registrations, there will be one vote, provided that the original, legal, person was registered to vote in the first place.

ACORN has become a scare-puppet used by a certain political party, but do your own research - don't let mass media reports trick you and subtly steer your opinions. Most importantly, register and VOTE!

This man worked for this organization for only eight (8) days and
falsified eighteen (18 ) voter registrations. This is only the tip of the iceberg....

It's the republican party just putting those signs out and it isn't necessarily the people's choice. Just because you see the old man's name strewn around your town doesn't mean the rest of the state will vote that way.

The problem is that organizations such as ACORN end up hiring whoever will take the $8/hour to do the job. They often end up with people who do not exepct to do much work for that kind of money. They are asked to do a difficult job, and they get disillusioned after as much as one day. Then, they either quit or find a way to make it pay. Spending and hour or so making up names and filling out forms, and charging the company for 8 hours plus the per-registration bonus fits the bill. Since we won't pay more money for this sort of activity, and since we can't get volunteers to do it, we will have to deal with what we get.

There is always a few bad apples thrown into the mix and trying to rip someone off. Thanks for the information. I don't think people know the entire story. I read about this on CNN this week.

Hey Mary, I am a democrat and have a McCain sign on my lawn. I put it there. As for ACORN they employ and seek out people who would do anything for Obama. These are the people he attracts. Wait until he gets in. The only people who will get anything from his promises are those that have families on the dole for generations and those that are here illegally. If you think you will see any of his promises think again. The only thing you will see is increased taxes on your hard earned money to spread the wealth around to bums. By the way, you won't see one indictment at ACORN or anyother shade Obama fronts because if there are we will be back in the 1960's with riots in the street.

Actually, the kind of people Obama seems to attract are the kind who are trying to get disenfranchised U.S. citizens to register to vote. The kind of people McCain seems to attract shout "kill him!" at rallies, or who ignorantly seem to think that he's an arab for some reason that is blind even to a simple internet search for Obama's biography.

When you register, it is non-partisan. That means it doesn't benefit any party; it just means that you intend to vote. ACORN is just another non-issue not-so-cleverly designed to try to divert attention from dire real-life issues.

I'm independent and will be voting for Bob Barr as it looks to be an Obama landslide in PA, but it's obvious that this election is also about taking power out of the hands of the neocons who have raped and pillaged the good name of the Republican party and the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights in their lust for a fascist hegemony.

kathy, i'm a republican and i'm just curious, why would a democrat vote for Mccain, is it because the democrat party has gone so far left or is it because you just don't like the policies and the baggage that comes obama?

John McCain's campaign has directed $175,000 to the firm of a Republican operative accused of massive voter registration fraud in several states.

According to campaign finance records, a joint committee of the McCain-Palin campaign, the RNC and the the California Republican Party, made a $175,000 payment to the group Lincoln Strategy in June for purposes of "registering voters." The managing partner of that firm is Nathan Sproul, a renowned GOP operative who has been investigated on multiple occasions for suppressing Democratic voter turnout, throwing away registration forms and even spearheading efforts to get Ralph Nader on ballots to hinder the Democratic ticket.

In a letter to the Justice Department last October, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said that that Sproul's alleged activities "clearly suppress votes and violate the law."

That Sproul would come under the employment umbrella of the McCain campaign -- the Republican National Committee has also separately paid Lincoln Strategy at least $37,000 for voter registration efforts this cycle -- is not terribly surprising. Sproul, who has donated nearly $30,000 to McCain's campaign, has been in the good graces of GOP officials for the past decade despite charges of ethical and potentially legal wrongdoing.

But his involvement with the Republican Party's voter registration efforts has the potential to create a political and public relations headache at a time when McCain can ill-afford one. For weeks the Arizona Republican and his allies have been seeking to tie Barack Obama to the community organization ACORN, which they have accused of potentially committing massive voter registration fraud. Sproul's contract with the GOP ticket -- in addition to news of Republican officials attempting to suppress Democratic turnout in California -- raises, for some, questions about McCain's own efforts.

Don't think for one second that I care about what you think and who you are voting for and don't give me advice on who to vote for! Take a look at CNN.com and you'll see a video taken of a big fat woman steeling an Obama sign from someone's front yard. Do your research.
