It's true, lightning can strike from a good distance from the storm. I know as my coworker on a construction site was hit by a strike several years ago. the storm was about 5 miles north of us and the sky was dark in that direction. we had sun and no rain. just a slight sound of thunder off in the north. the coworker was on a ladder just of the edge of a two story roof on a new home being built. suddenly WAM... a bolt hit close by him and sent him to the ground with burn marks on his arm and neck. he was shaken up and did not remember being on the ladder. After that, anytime it even looks like a storm might be in the area. we stop outside work until it passes. the one trick we use now on the job to detect lightning is by turning on the job radio to a A.M. channel and you will hear static each time there is lightning in the area it will make a cracking noise. we hear that, we head for the indoors. try it! it works as a good safety devise.

To say the electric hedge clippers had nothing to do with this accident is crazy, as an electrician I know well the hedge clippers have a ground wire and if the ground wire was used and not bypassed with a two prong adapter and any extension cords use had proper 3rd wire ground again not bypassed by two prong adapters. the hedge clippers have now become a perfect ground just like a lightning rod. If this was properly investigated they find differently.

Most fools is so full of misinformation and bravado that they are apt to get killed (who cares, let's cleanse the gene pool) or some innocent killed.

If you can even remotely hear it (thunder) it,(lightning) is there, and it can kill you.

Wake the hell up during physics class you morons.

"and the weather service received several reports of ground-to-cloud lightning strikes..."

Must have been one heck of a storm, it came out of the ground.

Not sure if anyone here is old enough but in the days before many had cable tv, when TVs mainly used rabbit ears, if a storm was approaching you could see the lightning/static zipping across the screen. Used to be pretty creepy to see.

Really? You are going to bring up politics when everyone else is talking about lightning and safety? LET IT GO DUDE, THE REPUBLICANS LOST THE ELECTION! This isn't about you or your politics, it's about EVERYONE (regardless of their political party).
Spoken like a true demo. Trying to force people what to do, who they should like, what they should talk about.

He never called the man stupid, but suggested he might be by asking if he were.

Anyway, you can be both thoughtful and helpful, and still be stupid you know....

and didnt Forest Gump's mom once say that "stupid is as stupid does".. I would say what this man did was rather unintelligent.. may he rest in peace.

Was it really THAT necessary for you to be THAT particular to feel good about yourself as a 'know it all'?

Perhaps you'd like to articulate the exact curriculum number and room as long as we're correcting a lesser intellgence here.

Sorry, but physics really has nothing to do with the weather. Oh, and your grammar is absolutely horrible.
