In Bethlehem, pedestrian sting is a walk on wild side

It's south Bethlehem, 11:15 a.m. Motorists hurry through the busy Five Points intersection while a gaggle of pedestrians, dressed in unassuming khakis, T-shirts or tank tops, cross. Full Story

Officer Marks is an a-hole, pretty boy punk who treats people badly. He should not get any press.

and when you read a story in the paper about someone gettng hit while crossing the street, you people will cry and b!tch that the police don't do enough to control traffic while people are crossing the street. either way, the cops can't win.

Fines and and Increased insurance premiums are not an education, aren't they just another nusance tax?

If the health worker is a getting paid are they still a volunteer?

If they are getting paid should they be docked for their time walking the streets?

Are Health Workers open to personal civil liabilty for conspiring to entrap and possibly cause an accident?

What is the law anyway?

Did government just create the law or has government just chosen to enforce it at this time?

People cross streets wherever and whenever and they are given the right of way. Is it aggressive driving if pedestrians cross against the light and come close to a car?

Who defines agressive drving anyway?
It seems subjective

Would it not be more cost effecitve to inform the people of the Lehigh Valley what the law is by newspaper adds , mailers in government correspondenceand, signs etc ?

I have been hearing about this for months and I am still not clear what the law is ?

I yeild to pedestrians all the time, In fact once I yielded to a pedestrian crossing in the middle of a block outside a cross walk and I caused a 5 car pile. How safe is that ?

We have a crosswalk near us. I sometimes walk out, knowing a car will have to slow down. I am not 'darting out'. I am walking out in full view. The law says the car has to slow down, but I get my share of honks and fingers from obnoxious motorists. Seems like it is the same crowd that posts here. No wonder this is such a fat area. Get out of your cars and walk some. It will change your perspective and your waistline.

This Pencheshin woman in the photograph included with the article looks more like a neighborhood "street walker" than a public health official.

How about enforcing the speeding problems in neighborhoods throughout the city? A little speeding sting once in a while might make it better for pedestrians and other drivers.

I thouhgt the parts of the country that had the lowest rate of car ownership had the highest levels of obesity . Isn't being overweight correlated to low education levels and low earning capability not automobile usage ?

Would you or do you teach your children to step out into traffic and hope for the best?

Transportaion taxes pay for the streets and roads pedestridians do not.

As I stated I stopped for a pedestrian and caused a 5 car pile up people were hurt. Would it bother you at all if you caused an accident?

shame, shame, shame,.while the people you sting are good citizens, who pay your taxes to support law and order, themoney and energy you used ,is tax payers money, you should look at all the drug related crimes.rapes, domestic abuse, murder, robbery, white collar crime.political corruption, homeless vets, hungry children, gangs etc.and put it to a more better arrest method, the real reason ,is that your stings are safe to make, get real act like a real american, spend my money on violent crime, not white bread to white toast arrest you are making, plus health dept. workers should be fired to put their bodies out on the street to bust a move.the health dept. manager should be investagated by the state attorney general, just to let this happen, what next ,will the healet dept. officials next subject his female employees to pose as hookers during their work hours,,to get the johns off the streets during music fest,or when gambling gets here, use them to be drug decoys.where is the health depl. union rep,or is that your next sting,if a bee were to sting you,do not call the health dept.because the manager, could not tell a bee sting, from ajustice dept real sting,if i find a fly in my soup ,who would i caa.

After watching the video, I think those police are out of their minds to cite the drivers! Those "pedestrians" were allowed to just walk out in front of cars driving with the flow of traffic and the drivers got pulled over??? You have got to be kidding me. That one person crossed half the street in time to meet up with the car already there and had to stop for a second to finish crossing on a clear road. What's wrong with that??? Then the cop pulls over the driver of the car that was simply minding it's own business??? Wow, just wow. If you want cars to stop there in case a pedestrian needs to cross, put a stop sign in!

how about doing some of these "stings" on the north side???? try center & broad, center & north, north & new, north & guetter - the lanta drivers are maniacs - linden & goepp.
there should be a mental competency test before anyone can get a driver's license - not just rules of the road & driving ability. keep the idiots off the roads.

These waste-of-money-idiots are probably deliberately walking out in front of people, giving them little reaction time, and slamming them with a violation. Sounds like entrapment to me.

The law also states:
No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute a hazard.

Why dont you check out the conviction rate of the 64 citations issued? Mag. Stocklas throws out all of them because he wasnt notified of the sting. Just another waste of grant money
Grants have very specific guidelines you can't take a pedestrian safety grant and use it for drug bustin'.

Lovely, historic Bethlehem marketed as a year-round casino destination.... sigh. In my opinion, Mayor Callahan is a white-collar criminal.
