I yield to people waiting at the crosswalk on Wyandotte near Sioux, and the other lane of traffic continues driving, totally oblivious to the person standing there. Then, sometimes the driver behind me will honk at ME, also unaware someone is at the crosswalk and we are required to stop.

Chapter 35: SPECIAL VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS
Subchapter C: Rights and Duties of Pedestrians
Section 3542. Right-of-way of pedestrians in crosswalks.
(b) Exercise of care by pedestrian.—No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute a hazard.

There is rarely a time when traffic is not so close as to constitute a hazard.

yeah,,,but you didn't put this in.

Section 3542. Right-of-way of pedestrians in crosswalks.
(a) General rule.—When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.

That does not give them the ‘right’ to step out in front of moving traffic.
That’s why I posted the pedestrians responsibilities.

Anything other than crossing at a traffic controlled intersection is suicidal.

it would be nice if they spent this much time catching real criminals rather than setting up drivers with people walking out into intersections. Bethlehem's finest at work again. yawn*

I went through that sting yesterday. The pedestrian just stepped out in front of me. If the pedestrian had been waiting on the side...I'd understand...but that sting was not set up to follow the entire law.

Why dont you try arresting some of the scum that roams the streets at night over at 5 Points that are robbing Lehigh Students and others and shooting guns .. While the health workers were over there they could of made a multiple of drug transaction arrests in the first block of Broadway from 5 Points... If you think fining a few drivers is going to bring law abiding citizens back to 5 Points or the South Side in general..you are MISTAKEN

Why dont you check out the conviction rate of the 64 citations issued? Mag. Stocklas throws out all of them because he wasnt notified of the sting. Just another waste of grant money

I am confused. I always thought that pedestrians were not to cross unless traffic was clear. It now sounds like they can dart into traffic when ever they want. Maybe the Morning Call should have stated what the laws are. Now that would be educating the public.

Walking into crosswalks and not facing oncoming traffic or pausing to allow traffic to stop safely is whats going on here.

Hello? Bethlehem should spend its time and money finding criminals...... not drivers in 5 points. GET YOUR HEAD OUT! But, then again it's Bethlescum.

The 5 points intersection is quite dangerous. It is uncomfortable and challenging to cross the street there. I support this sting wholeheartedly.
