The thing about temporary tax increases is they are never temporary.

Let me make this clear enough that even a politician can understand it....taxpayers can not afford one more tax increase for ANYTHING. The pockets of taxpayers have been bled dry and there is nothing left...not dime! The state of PA will have to make do just like the rest of us.
Mr. Rendell...can you hear us now...NO MORE TAXES!

You can't cut the heart out of a dead vulture and get any useful results. Keep cutting your own pals til we get a no increase in taxes.

Temporary is a relative term. Pennsylvania tax increases are only temporary, just like Blue Mountain is only a temporary geological feature.

Several ideas:

1. Cut the Penguins Stadium -$200 Million
2. Cut Legislative WAM's (Earmarks for pet projects to ensure re-election)-$300 - 400 million
3. Cut the Chester soccer Stadium -$ 30 million.
4. Cut the Pilly convention center -$ 100 - 200 million.

Plenty of other similar projects and spending tasks out there.

No tax increase until pork is CUT.

Why don't the legislators "mull" cutting their salaries that they voted to increase awhile back?

State lawmakers mull tax hike, spending cuts

Skip the tax hikes, proceed with the tax cuts. Get government back into its rightful place and get rid of the mission overreach!

No tax hikes. Cut State Government.

Plus, define services to me. What services will taxpayers suffer cuts from? I venture to guess that these "services" do not really impact the working taxpayers in this state.

Cut the pork, WAM, excessive benefits, government intrusion into areas not mandated by the State Constitution. It's our money, not yours. We earned it. TAXPAYERS NEED TO VENT THEIR OUTRAGE BY VOTING THESE SELF SERVING CRETINS OUT!

Please tell Spendell and Dwight Evans they cannot spend their way to prosperity. Spendell spent $$ at twice the rate of inflation since 2003 and PA was number 1 in spending for economic development for past five years. Still we rank 33rd in job growth, 40th in personal income growth and 43rd in population growth.

Eliminate pensions for all state employees. Give them a 401K like the rest of is and let them fend for themselves.

It is this simple. Commonwealth must cut $6 billion in short-term for at least the next year. This means people being laid off from government, period. This means a reduction of non-essential services. This means every single department cutting by a minmum of 15%.

It is that simple. There is no more federal bailout. We have Geithner begging the Chinese to buy our debt. The captial markets can not handle another $1-$3 trillion issuance of US debt. There just are not enough BUYERS of suspect paper.

The American and Commonwealth Gravy Train has jumped the tracks. The party is over. Government must slim down.

Pa. sounds just like California until the voters spoke loud and clear. Just cut programs and stop the taxes. Perhaps the politicans should put various referendums to the voters and let them decide. Since Pa. is not as liberal as California, I bet the Pa. voters would vote a resounding to no new taxes. But politicans of neither party will do this. So, yes some spending cuts will be made, but we can sure bet we'll get continued tax increases.

Democrats have never seen a tax that they do not like. Voting Democratic is like being addicted to crack, you feel good for the moment, then it ruins your life! NO MORE TAXES - CUT PROGRAMS - STOP WAM MONIES - NO ENTITLEMENTS - NO EARMARKS - THEN VOTE THEM OUT, THAT'S THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL ALL GET THE MESSAGE.
