Scrap yards see less cash from clunkers

Full story: The Morning Call

The federal ''cash for clunkers'' program may be giving car dealers a much-needed boost, but it isn't necessarily prompting a corresponding economic jolt at the scrap yards that take those jalopies.

Of course these guys are not going to see the same types of revenue as the dealers. Duh!!
But they will still see the trickle down effect of this program. The fact that business is "hectic" implies this.

This is a load of crap. Our pathetic government should be helping people that really need help. They think the car business is going to save the world!

How long will it take before people can not make payments on these new vehicles? Then what happens to them?

Everyone is missing the point. The government wants to control what we drive. So when everyone is running around town in these garbage little puddlejumpers, and all the good cars, trucks and SUVs are off the road, they will have us under their control.

Another idiotic program forced on us by the global warming liars.

Shouldn't the credit restrictions be tougher now that banks goofed everything up? That "should" weed out a lot of the bad loans.
The scrap dealers should feel free to offer signifigantly less for these scrap vehicles.

"Managers at local scrap yards say they've been fielding calls from dealers looking to unload the junkers", I didn't know you could make money fielding calls. It's like being busy at the local nursery, and then having to deal with phone calls from landscapers looking for the best prices, not necessarily a "good" hectic. No one said they were not making any money, just that the government is preventing them from making more off the good parts.

How long before we are bailing out the car companies again because these same people can't pay their loan? Wake up and smell the rat behind it all.

If I were the owner of a salvage yard, I would not accept anything that I couldn't resell. That's the "core business" of a salvage yard.

If power trains need to be disabled, let the dealers, who are raking-in all the money, send the vehicles directly to the recycling plants.

Why should Strack get stuck holding the bag?

And if one or more of those calls yields a sale, what's the problem??
The fact is they TAKE the call to MAKE the sale.
My point was merely that these scrap dealers are winners with this program, regardless whether they can sell the engine or not.

The car companies get their money from the banks that provide the car loan. The car is collateral. The car companies will not loose a cent.

This whole program sounds pretty stupid and wasteful to me; but isn't that how the federal government operates anyways? No big surprise.

Apparently not any time soon. The gov. doesn't care what we think. They swear they are going ahead with the healthcare crap no matter what the people want. This program was screwed up since day 1. They blew 1 bilion in like 4 days I beleive, they are looking for another 2 billion. Where do we draw the line? Maybe another 3 billion next? Keep going and going and going with this. It is billions of our money spent to contribute to people that want new cars. Probably most who can not afford to make the payements in the end, so here we go again.
