Saturday's shooting victim dies

A man struck by gunfire in a Saturday night shooting at Ninth and Liberty streets in Allentown has died, police said.

Who possibly even thinks of driving downtown to brew works or croc rock when people are getting gunned down in nightly drive-bys at 9 AT NIGHT! If these murders don't start happening at 3 am again like they used to, those businesses are gonna suffer big time.

I just want to say to the family of Jimmy Ortiz that my thoughts and prayers ae with you at this time of immense grief. He was a wonderful person who brought a smile to everyone's face that he is around and always had a way to make people laugh and have good time. He will missed by many including family and friends. We love you Jimmy and you will never be forgotten.

They need to get cameras on these blocks around here..two people within a block of eachother in three days. Bet the killers will never be caught to.

I just want to extend my deepest sympathies to the Ortiz family. I went to school with Jimmy and had some memorable encounters with him. It is so sad to know that someone so funny, nice, full of life was killed so tragically. Allentown really needs to get there shit together. People move to Allentown to get away from that violence and that hard core city life. I know my parents moved us here to give us a life that they could not have in New York, and it is worse. To know that you cannot sit on your front porch for a minute is ridiculous. The poor Ortiz family gathered for his brother's graduation party for a celebration. Now because of some loser who wanted to kill someone, the Ortiz family is not celebrating Humberto's graduation but mourning the loss of someone so very special. Jimmy you are in my prayers and will be in my thoughts forever. God has you now. Just make him laugh like you made all of us. May God be with the Ortiz family through this hard time.

Jimmy, you made Melissa so happy and even tho she was with you last night she will never forget what happened. She truly loves you with all her heart and she will miss you more than anybody. You made her truly happy and now all you can do is just look after her and watch her as she sleeps and dreams about you. I know in my heart she was gonna be your wife. RIP Jimmy. You'll be missed.

isn't it wonderful how I78 between New York and Philly has made our area a new battle ground for the gangs and hide out for thugs from the major cities.

Don't kid yourself one dies and ten more come from New York why the welfare and SSI are easy to get. Take a lawn chair sit across the street from the social security office, see any senior citizens or people changing their clothes in the cars and going inside like they came from the Rescue Mission. Landlords should do credit checks before they rent. That would eliminate some of the riff raff. Who is our police chief Roger McClain or Ronnie Manescu. Officer Manescu must work 24/7. What's up with the Weed and Seed, doesn't seem to be working.

Jimmy was innocent he was a good person. Until you know someone don't speak about them. You were not lucky enough to know Jimmy.

As I read all these awful things written on this page I hope each and everyone of you realizes you are generalizing. Jimmy was not a gang member he was a good person. Everyone that gets shot is not from a gang or involved in gangs. Sometime it is a good person in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Realize all people are people and don't categorize people by race or last name. There are people of all races that belong to each class of society, so think before you speak and know what your talking about before you let stereotypes run your life.
