This is ridiculous. If she actually has a phobia of school, then it's sad, but her mother should homeschool her. BUT the school should not be responsible for paying for it. That's crazy. What's going to happen when she gets a little older and has a fear of working? She won't have to get a job? Her mom will work for her? I mean come on.. No 4th grader wants to go to school. But we all did it and it didn't cost anyone $45,000.

I hated school but they had other opportunities for me to keep me in school. I went to all day vo-tech. They had a program called AEP=Alternative Education Program, at the time I went. I graduated in 1994. I don't think it's available anymore, but the point is that there are other programs and things kids can do to get through school and graduate. I'm sorry, but I don't believe for one minute that this kids medical "issues" are to blame for her not going to school. I think she's a spoiled brat who needs to have all her extra priveledges taken away and forced to act her age and go to school. Period.

Please don't say bad things. She already has low self esteem. The poor mother deserves a medal for her devotion to this troubled child. If it takes another compensatory fund, more subscriptions, spa treatments, trips tp Europe or whatever else this unfortunate child must be educated and allowed to graduate even if it takes until she's 21.

As a resident paying school taxes to the Palmerton School District, I am so upset, no I am beyond UPSET. This is a good example as to why we pay the school taxes we do. I have 3 daughters that attended the school district, it is my understanding that the parents are fined if the students took to many days off (without valid excuses) WTF, this girl should have been made to attend school, the school board is playing her game and her mothers, In the past I have tried to keep an open mind about all choices made by this school district/school board...until now, I just can't believe this. This girl needs some help, along with her mother for allowing her daughter to play this game. And to the school district and school board, I am very disappointed in all of you. I wonder, if I have a problem with paying my outragous taxes, will the school board tell me not to worry about it ????

Downright fraud! Vacations? Modeling school? Give me a break. The school board & state need to use "tough love" and get back to the basics of education. And the mother - well, she may have given birth but she sure isn't a mother. If the kid has a true disability then mandate treatment or arrest the mother for child abuse. I just think they're both lazy and both scam artists.
Wow, I had no idea I could have bailed in 6th grade- seriously. I came home once to find an ambulance at the house for my mom who had a very serious illness. I was so afraid of coming home to that again (or worse) I developed a morbid fear of going to school. For the next two years, I squeaked by after using every excuse not to go to school. So I guess the symptoms were real, but my mom & dad took the "get your a s s to school or else approach". I graduated from high school & nursing school (w/o a diagnosed disorder) so I'm glad they did.

I am a young adult working full-time to afford my apartment, while putting myself through college. The money I make barely pays the bills and cost of food. I can't even get one single grant from the government. And this girl was able to get nearly $50,000 because she was too lazy to go to school. Sorry folks, I am going on welfare so life will be easier. :)

Anyone wonder how much money these scam artists have cost the U.S. taxpayers? Anyone wonder how many fake I.D.s these people have? The authorities need to investigate the entire family for fraud.

BTW, this crook could spend decades pulling this scam.

It's the mothers own darn fault for not pushing her kid when she would cry in kindegarten. Please show me a kid that didn't get scared and cry when starting school that young. Of course the kid is going to get a complex if Mommy Dearest says, "it's okay sweetie you don't have to go to school you can just stay attached to the banister - you don't ever have to go to school, you can stay home with Mommy."
Maybe the mom is the one messed up in the head and the poor daughter just followed suit. What a shame that this girl has such a bad example of a mother. It's called tough love - she should have let the girl when she was in kindegarten cry kick and scream - she would have gotten over it. Too late now.
It's no different if you say no to a toddler and they throw a massive trantrum - let them go. Walk away from them and they will finally learn that they can't have their way and they will build the self esteem it takes to get over themselves.
I think your 2nd paragraph sums it up. Mom set the tone for the manipulative behavior to exist.

What a waste of tax payers money. Common sense in America is gone and we are producing a society of losers and leaches.

oh, but she has no phobia of camp in Toronto or New York or of modeling classes?
Sounds like a spoiled manipulative child who learned it from mom.

Did anyone see the pic in the paper- the caption says she spends about 3 hours a day learning. I cannot tell if there is an ipod in the photo, but there is definitely a tv remote within reach, as she is drawing a picture. Didn't notice any textbooks though.

I've carefully read your comments. This is only one case in the multitude of special ed agreements that are costing districts untold dollars. If you could access the special education records of students in your districts, you would be yelling louder than you are now. You CAN ask for the special education budget and that will give you an idea of where your tax dollars are going. You will also be very unpopular because you are criticizing disabled children and their needs.

Districts hands are tied when the courts interpret the Individuals With Disabilities Act the way they do. Poke around and have some fun finding out how a good law has gone down the tubes allowing for huge expenditures and for people like this to take advantage of it! Apologies to those who have not used this law for personal gain or for exorbitant educational plans for their disabled children.

Biker: He's saying that he got deported for criminal behavior but I don't see what he did; his spanish is not perfect. He had lousy lawyers according to him. He had permanent resident status and could have become a citizen but I guess he didn't. He worked and paid taxes for twenty three years but all that is lost. The attorney fees drained him and he lost anyway. He has a grown daughter who was in the army when he wrote this and he lived with (not married to her it seems) Barbara who had his daughter, this 17 year old student. He's relying on her to help him get back here. Lots of questions come to mind like can the daughter get SS from his earnings until 18? Barbara wouldn't be so quick to help him if she is getting his SS. lol Note that speciaal education students are also disabled under 504 and they are eligible for SS which is just one other way we the taxpayers are supporting these children. Not all get it but many do. His deportation could have contributed to the child's anxiety in 4th grade but this should have been treated.

That's it for today. This is a really sore subject for me. Did you guess that?

Don't forget about the boarding school- airfare & limo ride included. I had to read that one twice.

I hope the PASD says NO. It's a shame to see these "con artists" milk to the school system for magazine subscriptions and modeling school. PASD needs to fight this one big time. NO MORE MONEY.$45,000 is a lot that could have been spent on all school children and not just this lazy child and mom who wants to be a friend and not a real parent. MAKE HER GO TO SCHOOL!!!!

Are you people crazy. Life is full of choices, If the kid won't go to school, kick her out. It's up to the parents to seek help for her. They're probably the ones who messed her up in the first place.
I get so tired of this Socialistic outlook our governmental bodies have.

Scam.

At most, this child needed home schooling. If mom is unemployed, why the problems with scheduling?

The posts I've read (not all of them) are only angry at the mom. What about the compensatory hearing officer with the state who ordered the district to set this up and gave mom full descretionary power? Is this person still employed? What other damage has this person done across the state?

I think mom needs psychological help, also.

I think this daughter should have been taken away from her mother a long time ago. There is something wrong with both of them. The daughter seems to be at a very low grade level, and would probably have to be put in a special education class. There should be some kind of laws against people being able to use the system like this. This mother makes me sick, yes I sure would like to see her run out of town. There are children out there that do need help and really do want to learn, she is not one of them!

I HATE!!! the area. Such stupid people and systems. The school district is a forking joke. This girl should be in a state hospital if things are that tough for her. The tax payers have to shell out 100% for peoples personal issues. You know what? I have a fear of work. So I want to get paid 120K to sit my Irish/German white a s s on my couch and have everyone pay for me.

Insanity....welfare bums, cops that sell and use drugs, local yokel council persons, it goes on and on. W T F !!!!!! There is NO normalcy in this area..........

Don't complain about the minority races..there is plenty of white trash to go around too.
