It makes me not even want to leave the safety of my home anymore... esp with my children... I think there needs to be tougher laws and punishments for these idiots. I say NO second chances... What a shame...Now that he has been identified, he was a wanted man and one charge was fleeing from police, I think the hit on the plate outweighed the stolen vacuum...my heart goes out to Jolene's family. Very sad!

Condolences for the families of the innocent victims.

May all the fire and ambulance personnel who had to be witness to this carnage find the strength to continue to help others.

The police aren't the ones who panicked and went the wrong way on rte 22. Also RTE 22 is right past the store, so it's not like the cops were chasing him that far or long.

Ok so if someone breaks into your house and steals something, I hope the police don't pursue them either.

Put the blame where it belongs, on the idiot shoplifter who went the wrong way.

So now the police should be sued by the dead woman's family? Thats pretty intelligent, about as intelligent as someone driving the wrong way on a busy highway with a stolen vacuum.

I have no info on the topic, but were the police actually driving down the highway after the guy, or were they just out there trying to keep him in sight?

"According to the Gulfport Police Department in Florida, Messinger was being sought on charges of armed burglary, aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm, driving with a revoked license, dealing in stolen property, and fleeing and eluding police. They say he should have been considered armed and dangerous."
WFMZ web site

This wasn't over a vacuum cleaner. The police had him stopped on Hackett and he took off again. He wasn't going to stop.

The driver was Kevin Messinger.

Read his wanted poster in Florida.

Still think the police should have let him go?

Look folks, don't let the comments go down hill. It's blatantly disrespectful to the departed and the surviving family.

This is a tragedy, it's unthinkable and a complete waste, no THEFT of a person's life who was trying to do good for this world.

Blame cannot be assigned in this forum nor should it be argued. Show more respect for her family than those who felt the need to snap photos of the scene.

The pickup driver is certainly in a very bad way under my belief system; I have to believe that is a common sentiment.

Let's keep our thoughts together for Jolene, her child, Dan and their family. All we can do is have our individual faith in powers greater than us that are now looking after those that have moved on.
