Bill would give immigrants licenses despite legal status

A New Jersey legislator is pushing to create a "driving privilege" card that would allow undocumented immigrants to drive legally on New Jersey roads.

Who will pay for their car insurance? How will they pass the written test and how will they read the road signs if they cannot speak english. Who ever came up with this idea better go back to the drawing board or resign from office. This is a ridiculous idea with absolutely no common sense behind it. We have enough problems with legal american citizens on the road without putting undocumented immigrants there to. Kill this idea and think about a plan to reduce property taxes which are being over burdoned by the school system and the teachers union. How is it legal for the union and for the powers that be to rape the taxpayer for the raises and the benefits when the taxpayer who is paying the tab cannot have the benefits but has to pay for someone else because they have a government or teaching job. These people should have the same raises and co-pays and non existing pensions like 95% of the paying public.

I see alot of illegals driving around with pennsylvania tags, but they live in NJ.I know they have no car insurance. What will happen if they hit your car and cause some damage , you'll never be compensated.

If they don't have insurance, and are a danger, pass a law to take their cars off them? then sell them at auction to pay for the court time, Or provide financial respite for anyone maimed by an uninsured driver.

I some times wonder what kind of education do some of our legislators have to even think of proposing this kind of proposal !!! They certainly did not give much thought to any of the consequences this would have.

I have posted elsewhere that we should make it illegal for anyone -individual or car dealer to sell a car to an illegal immigrant. Then we wouldn't have to worry about most of the illegals on the road. All the cars that come from Mexico or have been already bought in the U.S. should be impounded just like any other scenario where a person is driving uninsured or unlicensed. I think our legislators should concentrate on helping making auto insurance more affordable not more expensive. Oh, that's right the insurance companies can benefit if some illegals get a license are then possibly eligible for car insurance. Why are we making it easier for illegal immigration? Our goal should be legal immigration not reasons to encourage more illegal immigration. I too think soon we will be forced to pay for illegal motorist insurance as well. I thought that was covered under uninsured motorist.

These posts prove how ignorant some individuals are. Do you think immigrants cannot afford car insurance? cannot read? cannot interpret road signs? They work harder then most citizens, that is guaranteed, it wont be so difficult to teach an immigrant how to interpret a road sign, but try teaching a citizen to respect each human being and you will get nowhere. NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL and immigrants have made this country what it is today, trace back your family tree and you'll know how you got here. If someone denied your ancestor status because they thought he/she could not speak english, you would not be here. Immigrants work hard and deserve to be allowed to drive. Your worried about legislatures who want to provide for immigrants so that this country can be more productiv? why dont you spend that energy worrying about legislatures who pass acts like the Patriot Act and find ways to take away what our founding fathers worked so hard to provide us with, LIBERTY, FREEDOM, and PRIVACY! Our founding fathers never distinguished between immigrants and citizens becuase at that time the country was being built by immigrants, if no one came here, it would not be what it is today. If those immigrants were not given status then right now you would be in Germany, Ireland, Russia, etc. Somehow the legislature is finally working to improve this nation rather then interfering with others, and you object?

Many of us object having to pay for things that illegals receive for free. Things like healthcare, housing, food, energy, daycare, and education costs, etc. The average cost of having just one child often exceeds the average annual salary that these people "earn", yet they have an average of 5 children as compared with 2-3 for U.S. citizens. Anybody wonder why we don't hear a word from the "global warming" crowd about this? BTW, this country was not built on free handouts and many of us feel that everyone should pay the same costs and abide by the same rules.

I don't understand what is wrong with them car-pooling or taking the bus like anyone else who doesn't have a license. Why do they NEED a license? A license is a privledge, something you earn. Not a right. You don't just get one because you work.
