Two comments: 1. I'm betting that "Garrett" is a Special Ed student. Federal law requires that educational services be provided to a SPED student, regardless of his actions. If the student is a danger to others, or committed an egregious act, the placement of the student can change (i.e. home schooling, juvenile detention, etc) but services MUST continue. The pendulum has swung much too far in the past 40 years. 2. Do they teach any grammar and punctuation whatsoever in your high school? If a student is permanently expelled, most states law REQUIRES them to home school the student. The law is the law.

It's still assault.

It would be my guess that the little turd learns nothing from this. I can hear his pea-brain processing this now..."I set a kid on fire, and got nothing more than a hand slap...". This is not how we deter him from doing something stupid later in life, such as selling drugs, driving drunk, or.....*gasp*....disciplining his children! "I told you to clean your room!" *fwoosh* "You can just sit there and burn until you learn your lesson!"

Actually the kid whose turban was set on fire should have broken the assaulter's nose and two front teeth and then pleaded self defense. That should have taught a life lesson to that punk!

Most dictatorships at least PRETEND to have a trial or hearing of some sort -- go through the motions, anyway. While sometimes it seems that guilt is so obvious there is no need for wasting time in court, trial by jury, and the right to confront one's accuser are just some of the rights we enjoy that many have fought and died for. Let's not give them up on a whim or fit of pique -- tomorrow it could be YOU that I decide to imprison for a few decades!

I know that was his phrasing, not yours, but this misuse of a euphemism would be hilarious if not concerning a personal arson. Yes, he could get his G.E.D. in prison, which is why I say this kid got a mulligan here. He didn't just happen to have rich white parents, did he? That might explain a lot.

I'll bet if it was a KKK hood set on fire ya'll would be cheering. Towelheads are the newest and most dangerous terrorists. I hate it when they survive. People in turbans have a much bloodier, brutal and longer history than any other faction. I'm not saying that I support the KKK. I'm just saying that a lot of you are just trying to be politically correct. With you, it's not the crime, but who it was done to.

I didn't see anything regarding this guy getting one of those cool haircuts for free. I have to pay for mine.

Actually, as is shown by recent researches, majority of kids in the U.S.A are dumb as a skateboard. Don't be surprised if tommorow they call their own president as hailing originally from Arabia.

Ur ignorance is shocking!!!!-
U should now that the turban has been worn by many cultures-
inclucing INDIAN, PERSIAN, GEORGIAN(Black sea near russia) who are Christian by the way, JEWISH, AFRICAN and oh yes and was part of european fashion as early as the 1700`s.
SO that means the turban has been worn by people of different cultures, countries around the world including all the major world religions- christian,Jewish,Muslim, Hindu and Sikh.
The turban tradition is now mostly carried on by Sikhs who are indian and have nothing to do with muslim terrosists!
I have yet to see one muslim wear a turban in the United states in over 30yrs of my life- and I have travelled alot!
I can tell u 100% that all turban wearing people in the USA are Sikhs.
Gulliver u are the essence of the term " ignorant moron" I am sorry but I cant find a more politer softer way to describe ur views.

And by the way- u should know- that over 1.1million SIKHs(wearing turbans!) fought against the Germans in both WWI and WWII.
This is a significant contribution to the fact that ur not speaking German today! and in over 153yrs of the sikh battalions existance they have the highest number of medals of honor and that includes the victorian cross than any other unit worldwide.
U are talking about one of the most valient units worldwide with a proven track record for the freedom of people in this world! remember that next time u see a sikh wearing a Turban.

Lahori wrote: Madman is racist! I don't think so! Madman is a realist. It is an ugly fact that skin color plays a role in justice in this country, with blacks much more likely to do time for offenses for which whites get probation or a lesser charge. This case sounds like that may have happened. Just because I can see an ugly truth does not mean I support it, align with it, or wish to tolerate it. I accept that there are virulent racists (KKK, skinheads) present -- this does not make me one of them!!!!!!!!!! P.S. I agree that many U.S. kids appear as dumb as their skateboards. Let's just hope those are the exceptions!
