Q: When driving the Route 222 Bypass late at night, I have observed that the signals at the Grange/Mill Creek roads intersection are set up so that the lights stay green for Grange/Mill Creek traffic except for ...

If you drive on the bypass enough times you will notice that the light changes at the drop of a hat as soon as somebody approaches from Mill Creek Road, in turn stopping a much greater volume of cars and defeating the purpose of the "Bypass". Most signals will have the side traffic wait for a little before changing. This signal changes too quickly.

But then again, if there were no signals on this "Bypass"......(I won't get into that again, we've been there too many times before).

The signals are not setup properly. I drive the bypass every day. Millcreek and Krocks have green light priority over the bypass. And the old Hamilton Blvd. has priority over Millcreek and Krocks, despite Millcreek and Krocks having visibly more traffic than Hamilton. The Millcreek intersection at the bypass and then Centronia is very poorly designed, barely adequate for today and will be overwhelmed tomorrow.

Utilizing traffic lights rather than interchanges is huge failure and will lead a congested, unsafe road in the future. This area is run by old-timers without a clue. There is very little forward-thinking in PA. The blame here can be placed on both PennDot and upper/lower macungie township officials.

If the DOT puts a left turn lane at a traffic light, a left turn arrow light configuation should also be installed.

There wouldn't be any "corners" to build tax paying business's on.
That is the only reason they built intersections instead of interchanges,
tax revenue!

I have to agree. While the bypass is a "limited access" roadway (entry/exit only at intersections and interchanges), we'll see how long it takes for that designation to change, once Jaindl starts squawking.

Try driving on Krocks at 5:00. I have to get to Cetronia on Krocks. Three cars get through the green light with the third car being under the traffic light when it changes. County the cars that fly through that intersection on the bypass. Someone is going to get killed at that intersection. I sure hope it won't be me.

The left turn onto the bypass from Cetronia/Grange can be a bit hairy at night because you can't see the traffic going straight across the light because there is a slight turn in the road. This light really needs a left turning signal before the accidents start piling up.
