I hate to disagree but I like Jim Gandy much better than Brooks Garner. Lately, Brooks has become full of himself and very arrogant. Jim is pleasant. I have switched to WLTX because of the pleasant ways that they do news and weather. Hot_4_Teacher wrote: Brooks Garner is a WHOLE lot better than anyone of those fake newsies at 'LTX. Have you ever noticed how JR Barry and Jim Gandy use that FAKE newsvoice?? It's like they're entoning... It's like listening to the anchor on the Simpsons... Brooks Garner is real... he talks to you... sort of like everyone at WIS does... it's funny... a totally new caliber of newscasters over at 10. At WIS, I feel like I know them -- like they're family. At WLTX, while I'm sure theyre all nice people, I feel like they're "playing" news, aspiring to be "real"... I met Brooks when he visited our school...(I'm a teacher) and he's a really nice guy. What you see is really what you get. The guy's genuine.

Joe, I don't think that Brooks is a fake. He is very knowledgeable. However, I have noticed that Brooks has turned into a very arrogant young man who enjoys throwing his fame around Columbia. I used to like him but now I am not impressed with him at all in spite of his knowledge. There is a part me that is ready for him to move on to another city. If he would work for downplaying his arrogance and show a some humbleness, I might change my mind. I know of several people who can't stand Brooks especially after the February snow-less disaster. Jim Gandy apologized to the viewers for his mis-forecast. Brooks did not. I am now watching Jim Gandy when I am in Columbia. Joe Pinner wrote: Some poor uninformed soul named Rainman thinks Brooks Garner is a fake. Well, having been around for more than 72 years and in the broadcasting business for over 50 years I know "fake" and Brooks Garner is the real deal. All the charm, zest, appearance, weather expertise you see is for real and coming from a young man of extreme intelligence who has a passion not only for weather but the arts, with degrees in both. He is a recognized meteorologist who brings enormous skill to the WIS weather team! He is a delightful individual I hope rainman and all others have an opportunity to meet and know. Check out his bio on wistv.com and be impressed. Joe "Knozit" Pinner

I agree with my friend Mark on Brooks. Sorry Joe, Jim Gandy is much nicer and humble and very knowledgeable than Brooks. Brooks does not have to do all those antics (segwy, surfing, riding a bull, etc) to do the weather. I have switched to WLTX when I am in Columbia. Bob

I agree with Bob and Mark and disagree with the fans of Brooks. I see that Brooks has become very arrogant. Brooks needs to straighten up.

Bob and Columbiaperson, many thanks for agreeing with me about Brooks Garner. I personally have nothing against Brooks. He has a wonderful future if he will check his attitude, watch his arrogance, drop his antics to get viewers, and be humble enough to apologize to people when he is wrong. In other words, Brooks needs to mature and grow up. He should have apologized to the people of Columbia for the February snow-less fiasco. My wife and I rushed back to Columbia from Murrells Inlet when we did not have to. We are still watching Jim Gandy and WLTX instead of WIS.

Yes, I agree with Mark. Brooks Garner needs to mature and grow up. If he does, he will be a better person and a better weather forecaster.

Yes, Jim Gandy is more mature than Brooks Garner. WIS took a risk in hiring a immature young adult to handle the weeknight weather forecasting. That risk cost them some viewers which include me. My wife disagrees with me about Brooks. She thinks that he is cute. But cuteness does not overshadow areas that he needs to mature in.

This morning, I read the story about the boy who shot and killed his brother on the the "snow day" that never happened . I don't blame the forecasters for this tragedy at all. However, it was a indirect tragic consequence of a botched forecast. Jim apologized to the viewers for the botched forecast. Brooks did not apologize and lost credibility. Enough said. I agree, Lee. Enough is said. Brooks has potential. To regain his credibility, he needs to publicly take responsibility for his actions and do everything that the others mentioned above.

I did not know that Ben Tanner is the Chief Meteorologist at WIS. Its interesting that the Chief works in the mornings and not in the evenings. I wonder why Ben chose to work in the mornings.
