Union: Rivals hire 75% of ex-car hauler's drivers

I think the union is being optimistic with their estimate of "about 75 percent of the 1,250 drivers". Hopefully they will get that many placed. I feel sorry for all of the workers that are looking for jobs that aren't easy to find right now!

Reading these articles being published lately about the former PTS employees(myself being one) that have been hired by competitors baffles me? Where is everyone getting the statistics from? I worked in the canton michigan terminal where we had 142 active drivers at the time the company closed their doors adn only 30 drivers have been picked up by other union carriers. The other 112 (once again, myself included) have been hung out to dry by our local union. We were the unions sacraficial lamb to make this industry stronger by eliminating one of the big 4 so that the other could be more powerfull and successfull. I have heard of nobody else been picked up, so once again, where is everyone getting there 75% from????

100% retention of the Toyota drivers at Port Newark NJ Now Allied Drivers
Everyone worries about the big three. Chrysler will not last beyond 2009 Ford is alive soley because of the F series trucks, Which they can not give away now!! And GM will survive just because their GM. Honda Toyota Nissan All making money all using Teamster carriers.
For all the folks hoping the Teamsters are on their way out. Just remember if the day comes that there are no onions fighting for the working man then the non union drivers will have their wages dictated to them.
Outfits like Axis will hand out the work and tell you what it pays and you will shut up and haul it or the next guy will. Heep in mind that there are thousands of Mexicans just waiting ro drive your trucks and haul your freight. Makes no difference if you are union or independent.
Borrom line is we are all American Car Haulers and we need to respect and support each other.

As being a wife of a FORMER PTS Toyota driver from Port Newark...my husband was left to hang as well. He has not been placed with a new company and he is not the only one from Port Newark in the same situation. The Union said they might have something for him in the next few months. Unfortunately we cant just put our life on hold for the next few months and hope that they might place him somewhere else.

Sorry to hear of all the lost jobs in carhaul but, I am also an ex (Anchor/Leaseway) driver and currently a LAID OFF Cassens driver with 16 yrs @ Cassens & 11 yrs with (S)Leazway. The last thing I will do ,is this job as a SCAB!!!!!!!! This is the root of the problem. All the bad drivers that screwed up with damages,drug tests & accidents are working as SCABS and crying that "they were hung to dry" or "the Union screwed them" when they SCREWED themselves. PTS drivers were screwwd by the COMPANY no one else. It's high time to quit blaming the union for a piece of crap company, or employee that can't follow the rules. I for one am Damn Glad I do not have to work with some of these cry babies that feel it's everybodies fault but their own.Talk to some of these SCABS and they have worked for 4/5 companies each was better than the last...TILL THEY SCREWED UP...Without the UNION and ALL it's faults they would be lucky to make beer money.The companies are the one to blame as this has been a WELL organized plan since the strike of 1985, of which I was envolved in while many of the wynne bags were still in diapers.That company U think is soooo great is out to eliminate YOU and your wages so the Exec's get BIGGER bonus's....Why is the whole business community in an uproar about capping exec's pay @$500,000, but no one says anything about the UAW or TEAMSTERS having to get concessions jammed down or throats ?????
