I agree.

There is a museum in Kentucky teaching kids that the reason neanderthals were the way they were is because of sin. Neanderthals were normal men and women that gave into their urges and sinned. They sinned so much that their skeletal structure changed.

"Because of sin, mankind began to degenerate, and as groups left the central society for life in the wild, they degenerated even further. According to this evidence the Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon people lived near the Mid-East, while more degenerate types such as the Pithecanthropines and Australopithecines moved still further."

[Bible Science Newsletter, 1980]

Kids are being taught this crap, it scares me.

Exactly. Now that they can no longer dismiss the overwhelming corpus of evolutionary evidence, they attempt somehow to screw it up and fit it into biblical mythology.

Funny how right-wing Christians call you an "atheist" when you don't buy into your agenda. Today an old coot on the bus gave me one of those "bible tracts," and I calmly tore it up without saying a word.

"Atheist!" he muttered to himself." Atheist! I give him the good news, and he tears it up!"

If I want church, I'll go to church. I didn't pay my bus fare to waste time with these silly types.

I suppose if you don't beleive in their one true one, you are

even if you beleive in some other god/goddess

the only difference between an athiest and a beleiver is one faith

the beleiver is an athiest to all other faiths

I get what you are saying, but it's not true.

An atheist is one that does not believe in any deity. They deny the existence of any God.

A theist believes in a deity. They believe in Jesus, Allah, Zeus or any of the other hundreds of Gods out there.

What you are describing would be more akin to an infidel.

The old guy on the bus is just showing his true nature.

This is a false assertion for may atheists.

I am an atheist.

I lack a belief in any deities due to what I perceive to be a total lack of objective, unbiased evidence.

I deny the existence of certain CONCEPTS of gods; e.g. the literal god of the literal KJV bible is impossible logically and scientifically. I do NOT deny the possibility of A god or goddess (or multiple ones).

Why do you think you speak for atheists?

I don't speak for anyone but myself. You, by your own definition, are agnostic.

Agnosticism (Greek: α- a-, without + γνώ σις gnōsis, knowledge; after Gnosticism) is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims particularly metaphysical claims regarding theology, afterlife or the existence of deities, ghosts, or even ultimate reality is unknown or, depending on the form of agnosticism, inherently impossible to prove or disprove. However, one must not make the mistake of saying that it is a stand exactly in between atheism and theism. Agnosticts will understand that it is fallacious and erroneous to believe that one can proove with certainty that God exists or doesn't exist. However, the agnostic will take a single postion in a whole spectrum of possibilities between the absolutes. For example, an agnostic may sway towards atheism or towards theism, never, however, saying that existance or inexistance is certain.

Atheism is the philosophical position that deities do not exist,[1] or that rejects theism.[2] In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities.[3]

Hey. I keep "hearing the Atheists in the Christian forum complain about Christians in the Atheist forum and thought I'd take a peek and see what they were talking about and there's your name on one of the threads. What a nice surprise.

The point is you may be spiritual and believe in a higher power but if you do not beleive in a specified organized religion you are considered a athiest or sinner. Organized religion is the basis for a large percentage of hate in this world. If people just left everybody alone thier own opinion and not scorned everybody this world would have a lot less wars and hatred. You cannot debate factual evidence of evolution. Or did God throw in fossils and bone to mess with us

Doing well, thanks! How 'bout you? Funny, I caught this thread in my home towns list.

I don't post nearly as often anymore, work constraints. Too many of the same ole arguments too.

Some of the apologetic ministers teach that the devil made the fossils to make man doubt God.

It's scary what they teach. The museum in Kentucky that I mentioned in post #3 is the worst.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creation_Museum

They actually have a statue of a triceratops with a saddle on it so you can have your pics taken riding it like the early humans did 6000 years ago. Unreal what they believe and teach.

Pretty good over here. It's funny how threads jump around isn't it. Sometimes I wonder if topix does it on purpose to keep the fights going. They're constantly cross threading the Christian and Atheism forums.

a beleiver beleives in one god - but does not beleive in any of the other gods

so, they are in fact atheists to those other faiths

so, it's all a matter of one

a true atheist doesn't beleive in any gods

and a beleiver believes in one and is atheist to all the thousands of other gods that have been worshipped through human history

You just disproved your own claim that I am agnostic.

Your definition clearly shows that agnostics simply admit there is no way to know certain things, such as if there is a god. An honest, objective theist is agnostic. An honest, objective atheist is agnostic.

I am an atheist. I have a lack of belief in any deities.

Here is what you posted:

"I deny the existence of certain CONCEPTS of gods; e.g. the literal god of the literal KJV bible is impossible logically and scientifically. I do NOT deny the possibility of A god or goddess (or multiple ones)."

An atheist will deny the possibility. You are agnostic.
