Burt pleads guilty to drunken driving

A state representative who was arrested on a charge of drunken driving and told police he had been drinking with the governor has pleaded guilty to the crime

“I wish to apologize to my family, colleagues, constituents and all who share Iowa’s roads for my poor judgment in drinking and driving. There is no one but me to blame for my foolish decision,” Rep. Kerry Burt, D-Waterloo, said in a statement today.

Burt was given deferred judgment and placed on one year of probation. He must complete a drunken driver class and pay a $625 penalty, said Ray Blase of the Polk County Attorney’s Office.

Burt told Ankeny police in February that he could not be arrested because of his position as a state representative, according to the police report. He also told police that it was not a question of how much he had to drink but “who he was drinking with.” Burt then whispered,“the governor,” according to police reports.

Burt, 44, was scheduled to go to trial Monday.

The governor’s aides acknowledge the two were at the same reception and dined with a group of about a dozen lawmakers in the evening. However, they point out that Culver and Burt had no interaction for five hours preceding the arrest.

Opponents have called for his resignation, also citing another piece of ammunition: results of a state audit released in July.

The audit alleged Burt saved $37,000 in tuition by giving an incorrect address for his children to attend the state-run Malcolm Price Laboratory School at the University of Northern Iowa. The matter is part of an ongoing investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

“Waterloo residents deserve a state representative who acts with the integrity and respect for the law that we rightfully expect from our elected leaders,” said Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn in a statement last month calling for Burt’s resignation.

Still waiting to see what if anything happens to Kerry Burt for stealing $37,000 from the State-run Malcolm Price Laboratory School.

You see, somehow, Burt wrote down the wrong address on the school application form.(Didn't want his kids going to the wrong school in Waterloo apparently.)

Little mistakes like that happen every day you know, like forgetting where you live for example.

Not only is Kerry Burt a Drunk, but he's a Thief too!

Daily Horoscope for November 29

Sagittarius

Pay attention to your health as the Moon enters Taurus and your sixth house of health and service today; it might be time for a check up. With Neptune and Jupiter in your third house, nervous tension could be leading you into bad habits that will undermine your health. If you feel stressed out, reach for your athletic shoes instead of a double martini and you'll be happy with the results.
