A group of summer interns from Perrigo Company will be chipping in at 4-H Camp Kidwell in southern Allegan County on June 11 to help prepare the camp for a busy summer season.

The 10 interns will attack truckloads of woodchips at the camp that need spreading around the grounds to help freshen things up.

Community service is something Perrigo finds important to incorporate into its intern program.

“I think it is one of the most meaningful events the interns do,” Perrigo Internship Coordinator Denise Curtis said.“Last year they kept talking about how great an experience it was.”

Perrigo’s intern community service program began several years ago with interns volunteering for a day at a local nursing home in Otsego, Michigan. Curtis said plans now are for the program to continue as an annual event, with a structured project each year that gives interns the opportunity to have a positive impact in the community.

The interns serving this year at Camp Kidwell come from a variety of work backgrounds that include engineering, finance, information systems and facilities management.

“It’s a great way to bring together people with different backgrounds so they can get involved with the community outside of our company,” Curtis said.“We want to make sure Perrigo is a partner with the community, and we show this by giving back whenever we can.”
