Metron of Allegan under scrutiny

After 11 citations for serious violations, the future of the Metron Nursing Home in Allegan hangs in the balance.

I know I pulled my Mother out of there after only being there 2 weeks because she was not getting the proper care. That was in 1995 and I have never recomened that home to anyone and never would, it is a not a good place to put your loved one.

I had my wife at Metron of cedar springs and she was also abused by not properly changing a bed sore at night even though the night charge nurse recorded it. Also she had a bad knee and while in physical thepry the wrenched her knee then made her walk on it and told her charge nurse what happened and to put ice on it when confronted by me everyone deny it there were a couple more incident that I reported . Finally i sign her out and took her home

Oh yea I could go on & on about the crap they did in Allegan and the violations, it's just unbeleiveable!!
I personally knew someone that was in there for 7 yrs. he had no family or nothing and I just felt really bad for him, especially knowing that I had to pull my Mother out, because they were too d.a.m.n lazy to take her to the bathtroom and she would have to lay in her own mess! They are just discusting!

This is not the first or probably last time Metron will be in the news.

I thought they were fined last year $100,000 for lack of bedrails AND I thought there was a similar story in the last 4 years about another patient who was neglected and her oxygen ran out.

I cannot believe the systemic incompetence that must exist in this organization. This is not just one location, this is many, many locations with many people involved making gross error after error. How metron stays in business is beyond me. How the state of Michigan continues to fine them and not simply shut them down is a further misunderstanding.

Ummmmm, did anybody go to jail over the oxygen thing? Im sorry, but if 2 patients died because they did not recieve their oxygen which was doctors orders then isnt that murder? I feel so sorry for those people. I worked in 2 nursing homes myself & there is alot of crap that goes on behind those doors. I couldnt take it any longer & quit. Such an awful shame!!

So sad that a place that is for people who need that 24hr care treats them like crap. It takes a very special person to be in that kind of work, if you dont like that job then quit. Not that hard to do. I hope they do find a new owner and get new workers there that like what they do and care about the people who have to be there.

How many times have they been cited????? Ok well there you have it, even tho you are one of the few that treats your job like your taking care of people you really care about, everyone will be looked down on and there isnt anything you can do or say that will change that. There is no excuess for this to ever happen. I hope that when they do get new owners you will be able to keep your job seeing that your doing it right and I hope they do find the " bad eggs" and get them out of there.

I did clinicals at one of the Metrons. I will say that it is not Big Rapids, Allegan or the one that the nurse aide works it. I'd say that at least of three of their facilities provide poor inhumane care. (Even my best friend complained about the neglect her grandma received at the one in Cedar Springs) At the place where I did cinicals, the CENAs would leave residents that were unable to communicate their needs in soiled briefs for hours. They were too worried about their 35 minute smoke breaks two hours after they get there. Call lights would go unanswer unless the students answered them. The state came and the one of the high ups told us to follow them and watch what they are doing and report back to her. Any well established health care facility would send students home when state came for inspections. No decent nursing home would even take a chance of getting a HUGE fine over a mistake that someone that is not even employed by the facility an someone that is not certified or licensed. I hope they all close down. I saw a couple of weeks ago they were hiring for a new administator and DON. I said then I would NEVER EVER put a loved one there.

No there's not a doctor inhouse. It's not a hospital. There's one doctor for several facilities that rarely does rounds at one facility because they are bouncing back from 4 different places on top of their own practice and taking calls from nurses at all hours of day and night. There's a storage of doctors in Michigan and the demand is even greater for long-term care physicians. I guess constipation and dementia doesn't pay as well as acne and breast implants.

I had a loved one that had to be admitted to Metron in Allegan. Her treatment was one of neglect. Her oxygen tanks ran out twice. I accidentally sat on her call button for 1/2 hour before my loved one was questioning why her light was on~NO ONE CAME to answer it in all that time, she suffered with a re-collapsed lung for 3 days before someone bothered to find out why she kept asking for pain medication~that no one gave her for those 3 days...They would just say "okay" and never return. The main reason she was sent there from the ICU in Allegan was for the collapsed lung she was initially recovering from. I could go on an on. Not getting there in time to take care of people who needed the bathroom...unclean conditions. I looked in the dining room and there were so many elderly people who had been sitting there in the dining room for hours with NO ONE attending them. I did not see them eating during the several hours I was there visiting. They were just stuck there in their chairs at tables unattended. When I approached the subject of reporting them, my loved one was in fear that she may one day be readmitted and have to go to Metron again and would be retaliated against, if I said anything to anyone. We made sure she never had to go there ever again. The odor, when I would walk in the front door, would immediately be present of soiled linens that were improperly taken care of. The place should've been shut down a long time ago. I will never ever recommend any Metron for anyone I know.... This is not the only Metron that has had problems... This company is only interested in turning a profit and they must believe that the elderly are an easy target. They certainly don't demonstrate that they care one bit about the precious family members that have been placed in their care. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them...

This sh** just disgustes me. I work in a home for the aged (not Metron) and I just can't believe that people get treated so poorly. If you don't want to take proper care of your residents don't do the job.

This is crazy... Metron needs to be exposed everywhere for their lack of caring for the patients. I know for a fact that Sarah Conley, a former nurse's aid at Metron of Belding, was stealing morphine patches off non-verbal patients. Did this make the news? No... it was 4 months ago and she has yet to be charged. It's sickening. This whole company needs some serious make-overs. If you have family in any of their facilities, I would be sure to keep a VERY close eye on them. The worker's reputation seems to superseed the patient care.

I am personally only commenting on the one in Allegan because that is the only one I have ever had dealings with, however I do know that other Metron's.

It's sad when the abuse and neglect is reported and there is still nothing done to the person or persons who are to blame...In regards to the drug abuse that takes place inside of the facilities..especially the one in Belding with a person(Sarah Conley-Geldersma)who took medice patchs off of the resedents for her own personal use. Just another concerned person here wondering who is actaully taking care of who while at "work"???

Metron hasnt given empolyees raises in 4 years, and before that 3 years. Ya get what you pay for. Combine the pay scale with a nursing shortage and you have the makings of a nightmare. Most good nurses and CENAs have moved on to better paying facilities with better working conditions.

Shame the owner hasnt figured out you cant make a profit if you provide crap care. I believe this is the third out of nine homes they own that has been forced to close. Its hard to imagine the pain and grief caused by such greed. Why isnt the owner held criminally responsible? You might want to ask our Attn Gen that
