An Air Force sergeant's difficulties with utility companies in Alamogordo led to a sweeping reform bill that passed the state House of Representatives on Friday.

The state is now trying to reduce the operating revenue city's need to provide citizens with water and sewer. Since when can a state tell a city, "you must waive a standard operations fee needed to cover utility operations expenses."? Clearly this newly elected state Rep doesn't have a clue how to serve municipalities, and he's dictating to a municipality that's not even in his district. That's like John McCain saying HAFB must lose the F-22's so Luke can gain F-35's - it did happened, and it's huge cost to the tax payers. It will be all the city tax payers that will see water rate increases to make up the difference if the state forces waivers for military members deploying. Did you know the federal gov't pays troops with extra allowances when they deploy? Just to name a few allowances: tax free pay, hazard duty pay, family separation pay, and such.
This bill is bad for anyone that receives a water bill. If this bill passes, water base rates will go up to cover state mandated waivers for military personnel deploying with extra dollars in their pocket. Next time, vote out this NM Rep that wants to hurt citizens through more mandates on city's.

We live in the southwest desert, rates are going to go up regardless, too many people and not enough water = higher costs.
