That's what you get.... Instead of getting an education and sticking through it. You decided to go to the oilfield which in the long run you bust your ass and work hard then end up in a rut. Going to school is always a better way. You wont have to worry anout anything. start school, i. The end you will have a career you can depend on!! Come on man I know you can do it. I believe anyone can do it.... If you can wake up and work in the sun or cold weather everyday you can surely open a book read it and attend class. I'm speaking to all the younger kids who want to work in the oilfield, it's not worth it..... I know some may say, I'm not college material, yes you are anyone can be :)

Oilfield has always been cyclic. Grew up in the oilfield watching my old man go thru the "chicken-n-feathers" times. Went to school, graduated, and went to worl in the oilfield until the mid-80's. Ended up at the house like thousands of others during that time period, and had to go find a new career. Unfortunately given the global nature of the end product, oil, combined with rampant speculation in the commodity markets, the cyclic swings in the oilfield has gotten much worse. The highs having gotten higher & the lows have gotten lower, and the swings between them more erratic.

Personally, I like the oilfield. It's a good place for a person with some fire-their-belly to make a lot of money. You just need to understand the dynamics, and not spend every dime you make! Unfortunately, the downsize is that there are thousands you don't understand these things. They are the ones that spend every nickel they make plus go borrow a few more nickels, and spend those as well betting on the good times remaining as the status quo for years to come.

Most of the time it's their chicks that spend every last dime. Either at the bars, nails, hair, bought food and sitters to be out hoeing around when their dudes be working. Wake up chavalos, smell the OIL!!

This is not all true. There are many Americans with degrees that are having a hard time finding a job because the whole economy is slow. Yes, getting an education helps but it doesn't necessarily guarantee you a job.

I'm just as busy as I've ever been. It has slowed a bit cause of the end if the year but by no means is it gonna stay that way. Once the new budgets come in for the year everybody will be busy. They have even scratched the surface in the eagle ford

Lmao. If this slow down surprises you, you know nothing about the oilfield. Save, save, save! If you blew your money on bars and hoes, you were stupid and foolish. Fyi, not everyone slowed down.
