If the City of Alice cannot find a hotel partner for the multi-purpose center, should it proceed with the natatorium & leisure pool anyway?
This was in the Alice 24/7...i dont know what you all think but it is my opinion that the city council should realize that Alice does not have anything to offer anyone that uses the multi-purpose center.... i think the city council should try and establish some type of shopping mall that will facilitate our citizens
what are your thoughts???

I have read the comments posted and this are my thoughts:

* A mall will not survive in Alice, and all the little towns that travel to Corpus Christi will still travel to Corpus Christi than to come to Alice, seriously do you like shopping in Alice? Get real.
* Oil boom will not last forever, it will last for some time, but eventually all the lower level oilfield workers will be laid off.
* City council people are working for the people of Alice, if you didn't vote then hush up, if you voted and your candidate didn't win. Then hush up, if you want to change how the city council does business then run for city council and have your voice heard.
* Nothing will make everyone happy no matter what is build, but you cannot make all the people happy all of the time.
* Multipurpose center is a family atmosphere place, and Alice needs family oriented activities.
* Malls are the past, malls are no longer build, Outdoor shopping plaza are the future. Investors will not invest in Alice. Look around Alice and ask yourself would you?
* Alice is like a big ranch, big people. big trucks and cars, living in condemned homes & children running around in diapers everywhere with no father or role models. This is generattion after generations of our Alice residents.
* I hope that the multipurpose center is build, and hope it doesn't get graffiti once it is build. It wouldn't surprise me if it did. With all I have said, I still have confidence in Alice, Texas.

Bullshit! We don't need a multipurpose center in alice get over it already council! Fix all the streets in Alice instead. Seems like the council wants to waste money on a center when they could use the money where it's really needed (the streets) or in bringing in business!

* Ok in order to have a shopping center in Alice, we need investors, in order to have people invest in Alice we need people with longevity in employment. Just because the majority of Alice works in the oil field doesn't make Alice a town people will come and invest in. Alice likes to spent money on food and alcohol and some on drugs.
* The reason the street take so long to fix is probably because they have been neglected for such a long time, maybe that may be a reason, ever think of that besides complaining. Jeez " Someone gives you a ride and you want the keys to drive the damn car" Enjoy the center or don't enjoy it. You choose.
* Malls are yesteryears, nobody goes to malls anymore! Do your research. Malls are going extinct!!!!!

in response to your comments:
1. the little towns go to CC because Alice does not have much to offer them or the citizens of Alice; and i would prefer to shop in Alice.

2. the oilfield boom will not last long, but who cares, people still need to shop here because of the growing gas prices and how about those emergency items that are needed because your kid needs a certain color shirt for a school function or last minute event...because there is no mall, we have to settle for walmart..

3. if the city council was working for Alice, why are our streets not fixed. and how about ALL the water leaks that will not get fixed for days at a time; and you know thats a great idea; i will run

4. you stated that investors will not invest in Alice, well you just answered the question, they wont invest on a multi-purpose center either, and an outdoor mall would be great.

The family oriented atmosphere place has been covered, when you guys re-built the park and made great improvements... so great job on that part, oh yea, that's the only part....you talk about family oriented activities.... well i never saw any of the council members volunteer their time to work at a football game concession stand or any event sponsored for the Alice HS...

there is more to volunteering your time than making sure you make the grand opening for a new establishment so you can have your faces in the newspaper...

If you want to visit the natatorium or the multi event center or even the mini water park you can check it out at city hall. That's as far as that's gonna go. Puro pictures nada mas!

FYI for all of you that think that a shopping center or whatever is the next big step answer this..... Where is the million $$ plus investor to build something like that??? The city can not MAKE someone build here! Man talk about tapados!! But stop moving the mamadera and run! Go make changes since you have all the answers, can't wait to buy the first shirt at Macy's of alice. LMAO

The oil field is going to die in the next 5 years. Enjoy!!

I agree with you but the city concil members already volunteer there time to do the job. They get a few bucks for attending a meeting that I dont think any of them even take. They are at all the events because they are voulunteering their time to be there. Dont hate on them. That aint the problem with volunteering. Now buying that swimming pool is a whole nother matter.

The Malls in Corpus Christi are going under, they rely on one part of the year to try to make up for the entire years profits which is the Christmas Holidays, Malls are no longer needed, intelligent individuals shop online. Reason you see what you see at Malls, and Wal-Marts.
J.C Penneys and Bealls in Alice are not doing so great neither J.C Penneys has 20% loss in profits and is now trying to target the gays and lesbians for a turnaround. Their father day add shows two men with kids. They will fail soon.
As for the Multi- center it is a Alice project which has been approved by the city of Alice, I am sure the project doesn't have investors, you are the investor.
Streets in Alice have been neglected for so many years that the only repairs were to add more asphalt and gravel, the effort to repairs is going to take more time then people would think.
Drive around Corpus Christi and see how many building are vacant, retail market is hurting and some of you are talking about building a mall? Seriously none of you have any business experience. Our country has no confidence in our leader Obama, your welfare President. I suggest you save your money and buy real estate in Alice. You will make money in the future once you flip the house. Have a good day. And productive week.

An oilfield boom that will die again at some point. Remember what happened last time? BTY...who's going to drive over here when our streets are so crappy you need a 4X4 to get to HEB?
