I already told you, no and's if's or but,s. I don't care what the circumstances were and to hear her excuses, because that doesn't change her abandoning the child in a cruelty manner. The child will be scar for life and labled "the show box child" just wait and see. She should have never done that! Instead she should have gone through an adoption agency or given it to a friend or relative

Well hopfuly the baby will b adoptid by someone that's not from here. Then maybe she won't be known as "the shoe box child". I personaly have mixed feeling on what happend, but what's done is done now. All that we can do is hope that the baby will be brought up by great parents.

Is there any place that we can donate clothes, pampers ect. For baby angel??

I think instead of us dissing the mother let try to help the child. No one knows the reasons and we are no one to judge. And if you really care about the baby you would truly find a way too.

I don't think any of us are in a position to judge what this person did. We have all done something wrong in our life time and only one can judge us. What I do think about this whole situation is that she was brave enough to go through the whole ordeal of carrying the baby and delivering her. It is not an easy thing to do with 3 nurses and a doctor around, can you imagine doing it alone? The fact that she selected the church to me means she is a person of faith and wanted God to bless this child in a way she was not going to be able to do. Quit bashing her and lets hope she gets medical attention soon. Women know that the process is not over just because the baby is delivered. There is after birth and everything else that needs to come out or she could get a severe infection or even bleed to death if something went wrong. God bless both of them.

For you idiots saying the mother did the right thing, obliviously per Texas state law she didn't! I hope they have results from their investigation and everything comes to light. What ever her circumstances were she should have walked into an E.R. handed the baby over and walked away no questions asked.

I wonder how many of you would have the same opinion if this were to happen again in a few months, or weeks? Yet this time the child did not survive? I know it sounds morbid, but it is the reality of the situation. No leaving a baby on church steps is not the same as leaving it in a trashcan, but it is also not the same as leaving it in a facility with proper care.

Another sad thing about this whole story is how OUR CITY POLICE CHIEF was so misinformed. Clearly reassures my faith in our city judicial system :-/

"Under the Texas Safe Haven Law, Texas Family Code 262.301, a child can be left with an employee on duty at any hospital, emergency medical services provider or child welfare agency within 60 days and not be charged with a crime. The person's identity can remain anonymous.

However, John Lennan, public information officer for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said St. Joseph Church is not legally a safe haven.

"We don't encourage this obviously, as there can be side effects," Wind said of the practice of dropping off infants at a church.

He said the church steps are not the same as dropping off the infant with firefighters, or medical personnel at the hospital.

"We don't want newborns going into the dumpster. At the same time, we don't encourage people to leave an infant on the steps," he added."If someone brings us life, we are going to take very special care of that life. Once the authorities step in, our responsibility ends there."

Alice Police Chief Daniel Bueno said he was grateful that Angel was left at a place where he assumes the mother felt like the child would be safe.

"We know that she had faith," the chief said. "We know that she knew that someone would take care of her. We all want to let her know that the baby is fine. We want to provide to her the help that she needs. "She can come forward and she is not in trouble. We are more than willing to help her, and I know the citizens in our community want to help her and provide to her the best assistance. An abundance of love and understanding has always been in the presence here in our community."

Bueno announced Wednesday that the mother will not be charged, but said the next day that the investigation is ongoing, and charges could come once the investigation is complete."

I totally agree! But the authorities say she did the right thing... So what? Now they try to push the issue that it's ok what she did? Fking bull! That's just giving other people who don't want their children the authority to do the same thing like its ok.. Oh Now we can help you since u just went and dumped off your newborn baby.. But you are not in trouble. That is so fking uncalled for people! The mentality of people now a days is out of control... And then they wonder why this world is so damn corrupted! Either way, that person that did this to the poor baby is not human and should be definately charged with abandonment! May she live with the regret and sin for the rest of her life!!!!

I think she does need some kind of consequence issued to her! That's just wrong to do something like that! She is sending a wrong message to our teens that they can do it also & nothing will happen to them either. Alice citizens be aware of any shoe box u see thrown around alice bc u might come across another infant! If this mother is from sd why didn't she take it somewhere over there? Why does she come to Alice & let us deal with her stupidity as if we need more ideas for our preg teen moms to absorb. Come on ppl grow up & make rt choices!

What size shoes came in the shoe box and where do they sell that brand? How long has it been since the store has sold them? The real truth about this is probably more vile than you can probably imagine. The mother is probably a very young girl ... 13yrs. give or take. She probably lives with grandparents or some other relatively similar circumstances. She has probably been the victim of abuse and molestation. She did not have the baby on her own. Someone is responsible for the entire situation. We need to find these people and make a statement! There are many kids out there in similar situations ... We need to speak up for them and ... ACT!

Yeah, she probably did it to totally cover up chances of anyone here finding out. So be that as it may, it is stupidity no matter where the girl is from. Are you trying to say Alice needs SD to teach girls bad habits? Well you sure are IGNORANT because girls wanting to do this don't hear it or see it only in SD. Hello, it comes out on the TV news, ppl talking about it, and on newspapers frequently. Now a days girls are not dumb, the same sh!t happens like its in style and shameless, so don't go moving your mouth trying to blame SD for it hater. You need to grow up a see life for what it is. Parents need to care more and pay attention where and what their daugs. are doing. If this was a teen , the girl parents are to blame and shouldn't let it go on.

To all those people saying that she deserve to be punish apparently have never been in a situation where you have no where to turn. Good that she left it at a church because she knew when the pastor was going to get in and SHE KNEW God was watching over her little girl so to all yall people against her f u because its better then her killing her or her growing up unwanted and neglected .

Damn.. I can't believe this girl had the heart to do something like this. Thank god the baby is doing well. As for the mother, it takes a good hearted woman to mother a child and she obviously wasn't one at all! And how sad she had that baby with no medical care given to her! Btw she needs to come forward and let authorities know who she really is and why she did what she did!
Um no because everyone who is smart knows that's its legal and she knew she wasn't fit to be a mother so she gave it up in hope someone will give her a good home ...
