That used to be a nice corner in Alhambra until it became Chinatown.While I embrace all cultures, Alhambra has lost it's American touch.This is in America is it not?I used to live there when it was a nice,clean and safe all American town that was affordable.

I assure you that a tank of gas to get there from San Jose will more than wipe out any savings on the price of a ticket. |

Had even you went there recently, main street is mostly western business district while valley is mostly asian. The city did make a major effort decade ago to attract many western business open in the main street. I do think the imax is over price especially in those tiny room. Price is not justifie. you could get blu-ray for that price. I am happy just to see those movie in quiet crowd in el monte edward only cost $4 at day time. |

Is it a real Imax or one of those stupid $14 per seat, not any bigger screen, IMAX theaters?

Meanwhile San Gabriel sits on it's backside and continues with foot massage parlors,Asian noodle houses and stinky fish markets.
Way to go San Gabriel you guys at city hall suck! |

That corner was rundown long before the Chinese arrived in large numbers. That's true of much of the west SGV. Chinese-Americans succeeding in business in Alhambra is about as American as it gets. AIf white Americans can't succeed in business, it's their fault, not the fault of the Chinese-Americans. |

And obviously you can't see the revitalization of Downtown MAIN STREET with is more inclusive with an American lifestyle than the all Asian counterpart and noninclusive Valley Blvd which looks like a foreign country. Thank God the powers that be realized how isolated they made themselves down on Valley and took back Main Street and made it more main stream America than Downtown Hong Kong. |

If this is true then why are there fewer Chinese businesses there? Oviously you can't see the revitalization of Downtown MAIN STREET with is more inclusive with an American lifestyle than the all Asian counterpart and noninclusive Valley Blvd which looks like a foreign country. Thank God the powers that be realized how isolated they made themselves down on Valley and took back Main Street and made it more main stream America than Downtown Hong Kong. |

I lived in Alhambra through a large chunk of the redevelopment efforts. Main Street was run-down and in serious need of redevelopment. I have no problems with having a zoned, mix-ethnicity area. I do have problems with people blaming the Chinese-Americans for every problem except the weather. Much of Alhambra, Monterey Park, and San Gabriel was in very bad shape before the Chinese immigrated in large numbers to the area. That corner of Garfield and Main used to have a large wig shop and some smaller, non-descript stores. The facades were in disrepair. The stores were in mediocre condition. It was a dump. It was by no means a "nice corner." |

Sorely disappointing story by Alfred Lee. And that's being kind. Does Lee not research his stories, or is his method simply "rip and write" Edwards corporate public relations broadsides with not a whit of concern for informing his reader?
A conscientious reporter would inform Star-News readers of the difference in screen size and image resolution between IMAX such as at Universal City Walk and the L.A. County Science Center, and the only slightly larger screens and poor resolution of the digital IMAX, which is what it sounds like Edwards has installed. When I pay for IMAX and get only cinemascope, I know I'm being cheated by misleading branding. But at least I can ask for a refund from the theatre. I just renewed my Star-News subscription. I feel cheated because Lee and the Star-News fail their responsibility to identify the system Edwards installed. Poorly done, Lee. Abysmally edited, Star-News. Regards, Michael Sedano Pasadena |

Wait, do you go to El monte and complain why it's so mexico there. Or go to Glendale and complain that there's too much Armenians. Many cities in Los Angeles has it's community. If you want to live in an all white town, perhaps move to kentucky and such. And if you knew anything about Asian American, then maybe you will stop crying. You can keep hating on Asian people but you probably be driving a honda and own several Sony/Samsung TV. GTFO. |
||||
hey dummy have to been to downtown El Monte lately?.........It's a dump GTFO. Gezz some people are just idiots think before you say El Chino you dummie although your stupidty made me laugh |
