Lots of rumors going around about the high school football coach. Heard that the coaches that were from Sparta are not coming back to coach with this new head coach. I also heard this new coach does a lot of belittling and cussing with his players and his coaches. Has anyone heard anything? I have a child coming up to the high school and I want to know what to expect. Are teachers allowed to cuss at their students in the classroom at the high school. If not then why can they during a high school function. Just curious

I was told that it was not occasionally that he cussed and I was also told it was the big words such as GD and MF. I am not trying to be negative but you say he may cuss occasionally. well are teachers allowed to cuss at their kids in the classroom? This cussing is not acceptable on any kind of level. Are you 100% sure about the coaches coming back? I support the program 100% however I do not have to support the coach especially if he is belittling these boys and cussing at them.

Well Curious, all I can say is, you're not in Middle School anymore. I have spent many hours with these coaches and players. I can assure you that the players out due the coach by a long shot.I would go as far as to say the middle school players out due the coach. I have never heard him use the words that you are refering to in you post, not even close. As far as belittling them, yea you could take it that wa I suppose. I would say that he got tired of the same players making the same mistakes day after day after day. I seen it. you know you can only say things so many time before you get the impression that some of your people may not be getting the point. Football is an intense, violent, dirty sport. It' survival of the fittest. It's get them before they get you. You have to have a differant mind set when you step on the feild. IF you don't feel like the meanest sob around, somebody is going to hand your head. These kids have not been exposed to football in a few years, some are having trouble adjusting. Next year should be better now that everyone knows what is expected of them.
You say that you hear that some of the asst coaches may not come back. That's common> It happens in every program. If they are leaving to better themselves, that's great, I wish them all the luck in the world. If they are leaving because they don't like the program, Don't let the door hit you in butt on your way out. We don't need you here.
Did you ever hear of a coach named Paul Bear Bryant? He was not a very nice man to be around on the football feild. He was stern, cold and some say mean to coaches and players. But he won football games. Not that that is the most important thing. He would have said it was the only thing. But more than that he mad boys into men.
Think about this. If you want your son to grow and devrlop into a man, if you want your son to develop bonds that will last a lifetime, if you want your son to find out that he may be on of the missing peices to a winning football program, encourage him to play. If not there are spaces available in the Glee Club.

I really liked your reply and I totally understand what you are saying however you mention Paul Bear Bryant. I loved the man as a coach but you are talking about the college level where the football players are getting paid( a full scholarship). Let me mention a man to you. Tony Dungy try reading either one of his books that he has out. He has two and the man never cussed the players and he took his team to the super bowl and won. Now that is class.

Thank you for your response. Yes that is on the collage level. You know that's where these players eyes are. Should they not be prepared. I know that several years (too many) when I left Sparta and headed collage, it was hard to adjust to the new way of life. The only constant was football. Now everything was just two times more intense. Now instead of one position coach dogging my every move,I had three coaches and a couple grad asst. just waiting for my next mistake. These players have to be ready.
Let me clairify something. When you say "cuss at a player" I'm not sure what you are getting at so I will just say this. I have never heard a coach cuss AT a player. The only things I have ever heard are pretty mild slang is how I descibe them. I know each person has their own perception.
Yes Tony Dungy is a good man of faith. But you have now moved into a whole other relm of the universe. Pro sports can not be compared to anything else. Motivations are totally differant. And yes I know that some collage players do recive scolarships, but, to a true football player or any serious players of a sport. Money or monitary gain does not figure into the reason for playing. I would have played if I had to pay them. It about pride and heart. It's about getting up when you can move because a helmet just went 4 inches into your rib cage. It's about reacing out with a hand that has three broken fingers, and grabing a jersey to sack the quarterback. All that comes from inside and is instilled in players at the high school level. Those are the things that Coach Malone is tring to get across.
One more thing for Curious. You say that you talked to 10 to 15 parents. I would love to know who they are. You see I know the parents that come to the practices and those would number 5 or 6. Do these people know he said things or hear he said things.

All men cuss, some just don't do it when women are around. It is football and it is a rough sport, if you are worried about your kid hearing a little cussing then I would say you don't want to see him out there getting knocked around anyway. All great coaches have one thing in common, they hate to lose and it is frustrating going 1-9 I am sure. I would rather have a fiery coach than a passive one in high school level. Your point about Dungy is valid but he coaches professional athletes not high school kids. This generation is the laziest ever and it takes a motivator to get them in shape and to be disciplined and you have to get in their face and call them out if you want to get the best out of them. If you are a player and a coach gets in your face and calls you out you will try your best to respond if you have any guts and if you don't you need to play a less physical sport like tennis or bad mitten.

We have heard the same rumors and also have one moving up. We have the same concerns..... Be a true leader to my child and he will shed blood for you out on the field. In all the sports, you get more out of these boys by building them up,then by belittling them...... In 20 yrs I will not care about what the score was, but I will care about the type of man my son was molded into. We hope that the rumors are exaggerated and we are prepared to be supportive. BUT...we will be watching. GO WARRIORS!

I agree with Sparta Fire and would like to add that when Coach Malone arrived he had no idea the type of football team he was inheriting. The skills of the players were lacking, the drive was lacking, the knowledge of the game was lacking, the skills were lacking. I watch the team play and cannot help but think that maybe 3 or 4 of the kids on this years team would have actually got playing time on other area teams - the rest, well they would have been watching from the sidelines. Football is a violent sport that requires intensity ... have you ever heard the high school kids talk? If you did you would no doubt realize that their language is far worse than anything any coach could say.

Give the guy a chance to see what he can do.

It is not about winning or losing. Yes I would have asked the same questions. I have heard numerous parents complain about the way that the coach talks to their son. I am not talking about a couple of parents but quiet a few of them and they said he belittled their son and that he cusses at them and his assistant coaches. One person stated on here that he had talked to the assistant coaches and they are all coming back, this is not true. Farley has not made up his mind yet he said he would give answer in 2 weeks, Lowery already said he is not coming back. Don't know about the rest of them. I agree the boys do need to be made into men but you do not make men by belittling and cussing at them. It is about the boys on the field contrary to what you think. It is the bigger picture that so many people seem to not be getting.

Any kid that truly loves the game will not leave no matter what happens. If one leaves because a coach did, he may be a weak link and need to be gone. Farley is a great guy and he wouldn't want a kid to quit if he did. Your comment is just crazy. There are problems no matter what sport your child plays. Just ask your kids...can't make everyone happy. Welcome to the real world.

You don't know Farley nor the athletes he is a role model for. He is a awesome man and coach if he questions coming back we are in some major touble for sure. It is not the weak links or weak athletes we are talking about. Many players and many parents are considering not playing for this Coach. All is not well At that school with that Coach. He is not earning respect. Not the cussing so much a worry. The man himself.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Pisces

Someone is extremely headstrong and defiant today, and there's every chance that you're the one fitting this description. The more others are trying to make you behave yourself or do what they want, the more determined you'll be to do the exact opposite. Well, it is a Full Moon, and a lunar eclipse in emotional Cancer, so you're excused! Show them that you're an individual in your own right without going completely overboard about it, because that will cause trouble. Then once you've got all that off your chest you can relax and look forward to a really Happy New Year!
